Political Corruption In The Caribbean Basin : A Comparative Analysis Of Jamaica And Costa Rica, Michael W. Collier
Political Corruption In The Caribbean Basin : A Comparative Analysis Of Jamaica And Costa Rica, Michael W. Collier
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Political corruption in the Caribbean Basin retards state economic growth and development, undermines government legitimacy, and threatens state security. In spite of recent anti-corruption efforts of intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations (IGO/NGOs), Caribbean political corruption problems appear to be worsening in the post-Cold War period. This dissertation discovers why IGO/NGO efforts to arrest corruption are failing by investigating the domestic and international causes of political corruption in the Caribbean. The dissertation’s theoretical framework centers on an interdisciplinary model of the causes of political corruption built within the rule-oriented constructivist approach to social science. The model first employs a rational choice analysis …

Nuevo México, Escuintla: A Critical Analysis Of The Guatemalan Refugee Resettlement Process, Martin J. Wera
Honors Theses, 1963-2015
The 1994 "Agreement on Resettlement of the Population Groups Uprooted by the Armed Conflict" set in motion an initiative to repatriate the estimated 70,000 Guatemalan refugees in Mexico on tracts of land bought by the government and sold to communities of returnees. However, five years after their relocation, the resettlement of Nuevo México has stalled, being stymied by questions of the land sale and on whom do certain responsibilities for the implementation of the accords fall.
As I will argue, the reason behind this failure to competently implement the goals set forth in the accord and effectively carry out the …

The Use And Manipulation Of Che Guevara's Image An Ideas By Fidel Castro And The Cuban Government, Erich P. Rice
Honors Theses, 1963-2015
The use and manipulation of Che Guevara's public image and ideas by Fidel Castro and the Cuban government. In my project I answered the question, In what ways have Fidel Castro and the Cuban government used and manipulated Che Guevara's public image and ideas within Cuba to rally support for the Cuban Revolution and its policies. My thesis is Fidel Castro and the Cuban government have used Che's image and ideas to gain support for their various economic and political initiatives within Cuba, and have also adapted their usage of his image and ideas to changes in outside political and …

Inmigración, Nacionalismo Cultural, Campo Intelectual: El Proyecto Creador De Alberto Gerchunoff, Fernando Degiovanni
Publications and Research
