Tanganyika’s astonishing constitutional progress, achieved almost without friction, he's brought the country to the threshold of the political autonomy within a decade of organized African nationalism. July 7, 1954, was a historical day for it was then when the Tanganyika African National Union (T.A.N.U.) was born in Der es Zalasa, the country’s capital, with Julius K. Nyerere as president.
