"Meir b. Elijah of Norwich and the Margins of Memory" is a study of Meir of Norwich's use of acrostics to record his English Jewish identity. In the face of the 1290 Expulsion, which follows upon many episodes of anti-Jewish violence and antipathy, Meir attempts to have his name recorded in perpetuity. This essay details some of those moments of violence in order to give voice to Meir's world and to clarify Meir's desire to be remembered.

Nothing like this pathbreaking volume exists in the ER literature, and this resource will forever change the research landscape. This volume stands for documentary editing at its best, and the larger ERPP itself, with its informative website and teacher training workshops, is a model of the highest editorial scholarship applied innovatively to the mission of public education.

Noted historian William G. McLoughlin once observed that in addition to mirroring U.S. political structures, the nineteenth-century Cherokee Nation shared two other trends with the young Republic: slavery and Christianity.1 Indeed, even as Cherokee people fought to retain their eastern lands in the first decades of the nineteenth century, they often adopted the ideologies of the land-hungry Americans they tried to resist. The title of my talk tonight is “Why Documentary Editing Matters.” The question I seek to answer is critical, especially in an era that has seen rapid change in how we make information accessible.We need to know the answer to the question in order to explain our work to funders. But we also must also explain to ourselves why we choose to dedicate our energies to this endeavor. The significance of what we do is not based on how we publish our work, but in the value we add.

The following is a listing of the many editions and volumes that have been published by members of the ADE. Each edition contains at least one editor, and usually more, who is or has been a member of the Association. It is a remarkable record of scholarly productivity in a wide range of disciplines. These many volumes, microfilms, microfiche, and electronic editions have added greatly to the resources available to scholars and laymen alike. It should also be noted that this list is incomplete. There are many other editions that have escaped the attention of those who prepared this list.

Narrative Convergence, Cross-Sited Productions And The Archival Dilemma, Marc Ruppel

This article addresses the speculative role of digital preservation from the standpoint of convergent literatures. `Cross-sited narratives', multimodal stories told across media channels, are introduced here as a specific mode of narrative instrumentality. It is argued that contemporary models of the archive structured on organizational models such as genetic criticism and on preservational models such as emulation and migration are not equipped to handle cross-sited works, as they are premised on mono-media sensibilities. Primarily exploring Mark Danielewski's House of Leaves (2000) and Neil Young's Greendale (2003), two works that resist digitization both materially and thematically, the claim is made that …

This interview conducted by Peter Vale suggests that they are complementary and are likely to be increasingly so. Edward Ayers is the President of the University of Richmond.
