Two major events in 1972 brought major changes to the College of the Holy Cross: the passing of Title IX and the admission of women as students. This exhibit commmemorates the 50th anniversary of Title IX and continues the celebration of the 50th anniversary of coeducation at Holy Cross by highlighting the founding and growth of women’s athletics at the College.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected people in many different ways. With the shutdown of the entire country, many people lost their jobs, people became infected with the virus, major events were cancelled, and sports were shut down. In specific, collegiate athletics were cancelled indefinitely. Student-athletes across the country lost their sports’ seasons. Being an athlete is a role that students tie to their identity, and with the loss of their seasons, student-athletes faced athletic identity loss. Red Gendron, University of Maine Men's Ice Hockey Coach, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after experiencing a medical condition. He was 63 years old.

"Words cannot express our deep sadness from t he tragic, sudden loss of Red Gendron," says UMaine Director of Athletics Ken Ralph. Like many schools across the nation, the pandemic has halted, altered, and dramatically changed the lives of students and people worldwide. Making Herstory: Cherokee Women's Stickball, Natalie M. Welch, Jessica Siegele, Zachary T. Smith, Robin Hardin

Cherokee stickball amongst the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is a sporting tradition that precedes written records. Historical and academic texts have focused on men’s participation in the sport. However, Cherokee women participated in their own stickball games as recent as a decade ago, and stories exist of women playing stickball in the late nineteenth century. Many in the community believe stickball should not be played by women and doubt evidence of women playing historically.
