Questions about the appropriate rules and mechanisms of taxation are, first and foremost, questions concerning the nature of society. What can be taxed, what cannot, for what purpose, when, and how, are all matters that go to the heart of society and, in particular, concern society’s underlying beliefs and values vis-à-vis the meaning and attainment of justice. Art that falls under the "new media" paradigm is problematic, or rather, it renders many traditional assumptions about art as problematic. In a practical sense, new media art raises fundamental questions about the nature of curation and preservation and the role of cultural heritage institutions as stewards of digital assets. Curation and preservation challenges, while significant, are fundamentally a symptom of a more catastrophic failure of concepts and language to adequately address changing relationships between art, materiality, and audiences. This article explores how burgeoning concepts in information and media theory may help shape curation contexts and redefine approaches to preservation. …

This biography of Dr. Jennifer Allcock is part of a collective work for recipients of the Philadelphia Award. Dr. Jennifer Allcock won the award in 1984 for her efforts to extend healthcare to underprivileged communities in North Philadelphia by her establishment of the Covenant House. She later participated in the Guilford Conservation Commission from 2004-2010 in Connecticut and served as its Chairperson.

The aim of this research paper is to explore online fan culture from a play perspective and analyse the construction of fan identities through narrative and ludic theories. After giving a short introduction to the different definitions of the 'fan', both from in- and outside of academia, I will analyse fandom by tracing play elements and the essential qualities of play, as defined by Johan Huizinga and Roger Caillois.
