U.S. military bases are widely present in Germany and dominate territorial urban spaces in the metropolitan regions since WWI. The cultural interaction and the city's formation have imprinted on the lived experiences creating identities through people’s daily interactions with the built environment, both directly and indirectly In combination, the U.S. military dominating presence left behind voids that have caused a rupture in the lived environment and social production of spaces throughout communities and neighborhoods in Germany, particularly in Mannheim, the focus of this study. Problem, research strategy, and findings African American/Black and Hispanic/Latin/o/a/x practitioners are underrepresented in the planning profession. In this study we examine these practitioners’ experience with the climate for diversity in their workplaces. Drawing from a survey of 3,005 APA members, we show that African American/Black and Hispanic/Latin/o/a/x practitioners experience significantly higher rates of bias and discrimination than other groups. Interviews with 24 African American/Black and Hispanic/Latin/o/a/x planners across the United States reinforce the narrative that these racial and ethnic groups working in the planning field continue to face racism, discrimination, and microaggressions in the workplace, which affects the impact of …

The theme of Blue Collars in Green Cities seeks to advance inclusive urban economies by confronting longstanding tensions between planning for urban sustainability and planning for urban industry. The legacy of industrial pollution and the erosion of industrial jobs have contributed to perceptions of urban industry as incompatible with vibrant green city visions and healthy urban environments. Consequently, various forms of urban sustainability planning—land use, transportation, economic development—have either ignored or actively discouraged industrial sectors. Affordable housing is a complex issue, requiring significant regional and metropolitan level attention. There are very few cities that can claim to have succeeded in solving this problem. However, the policy toolkit to engage with this particular challenge has grown over the last few decades. Given the diminishing role of the federal government in building and financing affordable/social housing, it has fallen to tribes, states, counties, and cities to tackle this challenge on their own or through collaboration. Since the 1980’s numerous urban scholars have taken to proclaiming one city or another as being ‘progressive.’ Planning websites like American Planning Association, Planetizen or Progressive Planning Magazine are inundated with examples of progressive planning in action. The examples of touted progressive cities are many: Burlington, Berkeley, Cleveland, Boston, L.A., Chicago, Cincinnati, Portland, Minneapolis, Austin, Denver, and Seattle have all been championed as progressive cities. Over the past thirty years, China’s museum sector has experienced exponential growth with the expansion of thousands of new museums, both public and private. Introduction:Increasing the Gray Wolf (Canis lupus) population in Washington state plays two important roles. First, they are an important part of many ecosystems as they are a keystone species. This means that they are a top predator and their absence has reverberating effects on the rest of the ecosystem. As seen at Yellowstone State Park in Wyoming, elk populations ran rampant for many years and reached their peak of roughly 25,000 individuals in 1988 (Kauffman et. al. 2008). Introduction:According to the EPA, environmental justice is the fair treatment of all people, regardless of demographic characteristics, with respect to environmental issues (2012). However, environmental injustice often occurs. Case studies have shown that minority populations and those living in poverty shoulder a disproportionate burden of environmental problems (Blodgett 2006; Bullard et. al. 2007; Mennis 2002). A socioeconomic status (SES) index shows the disparity between advantaged and disadvantaged communities.
