Metaphor And Simile As A Design Tool To Use Intangible Heritage In Contemporary Architecture- An Approach To Maintain Identity And Cultural Authenticity- Case Of Gaza City, Ahed Helles
Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
Historical buildings are considered a source of architectural inspiration and a key determinant to maintain continuity with the past and preserve cities identity. Unfortunately. most of the historical buildings in Gaza city had been diminished from the fabric making the city as if it has no historical roots, not only because of the scarcity of its historical architecture but also because of its contemporary architecture which seems empty from cultural contents and meanings. However, the city is rich with its intangible heritage which can be invested to fill the vacuum as a source of architectural inspiration. The study proposed that …
The Effect Of Season On Construction Accidents In Saudi Arabia, Abdurahman Ammar
The Effect Of Season On Construction Accidents In Saudi Arabia, Abdurahman Ammar
Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
Construction workers are exposed to extreme conditions over a large portion of the work day during the different seasons of the year when working on construction sites. Some studies have discussed the effect of seasonal timing of work-related injuries and concluded that more injuries occur during the summer months [1]. Other studies concluded that accidents are more likely to occur during rainy seasons [2]. Construction accidents data from 2004 to 2011 were obtained from the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI). A two way ANOVA analysis showed that there was no significant difference among the years in terms of number …
Daylight Illuminance In Classrooms Adjacent To Covered And Uncovered Courtyards Under The Clear Sky Of Najran City, Saudi Arabia, Abdultawab M. Qahtan
Daylight Illuminance In Classrooms Adjacent To Covered And Uncovered Courtyards Under The Clear Sky Of Najran City, Saudi Arabia, Abdultawab M. Qahtan
Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
Daylight penetrating the classrooms makes students efficient, improves overall health and increases energy efficiency. In the hot regions, the concept of courtyards in buildings is deeply linked to the architecture as a sustainable solution to daylight indoors without negatively affecting the building cooling loads in the summer. Najran University has existing courtyards in college buildings. Recently, the university covered the courtyards using PVC canvas. This study aims to investigate and compare the daylight illuminance in classrooms adjacent to covered and uncovered courtyards. A case study of four classrooms in the College of Engineering was investigated under the clear sky of …
Indicators Of Urban Heritage Teaching In The Public Universities In Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, Ahmad Toman
Indicators Of Urban Heritage Teaching In The Public Universities In Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, Ahmad Toman
Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
The study reviewed the academic programs in the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to measure their attention to teaching the urban heritage through the analysis of curse description and apply the definition of urban heritage to this description, and then determine whether this article takes care of the teaching of urban heritage. In order to conduct the evaluation, a digital scale designed to evaluate the universities in terms of urban heritage teaching at four levels.
The study reached the following results:
• The number of universities that teach the urban heritage 12 out of 29 public universities, which …
Towards Theoretical Framework Of Exterior Architectural Ornamentations Of Public Buildings In The Arabian Gulf States, Maryam Khalid Aldossary, Abdulsalam Ali Al-Sudairi
Towards Theoretical Framework Of Exterior Architectural Ornamentations Of Public Buildings In The Arabian Gulf States, Maryam Khalid Aldossary, Abdulsalam Ali Al-Sudairi
Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
Ornamentation is defined as a symbolic art that describes the cultural heritage of nations where one can recognize the elements of ideology, anthropological beliefs, and inheritance of beliefs, rituals and decrees. In the Arab Gulf states, ornamentation is considered as a major element of public and private buildings’ architecture that experienced several changes in their architectural and technical characteristics due to political and economic aspects. These aspects have had direct impact on the architectural outcomes including the ornamentation that led to various development and modifications in functions and features. Therefore, this study aims at creating a model that observes and …
Bridges As Part Of City Symbols An Analytical And Descriptive Study With Case Study In Basra, Iraq, Armen Sakis Khosrof Markarian, Kkhalil Ibrahim Ali
Bridges As Part Of City Symbols An Analytical And Descriptive Study With Case Study In Basra, Iraq, Armen Sakis Khosrof Markarian, Kkhalil Ibrahim Ali
Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
Various studies had covered a number of major areas and sectors (Mehalla) in Basrah describing its major roads building methods and characteristics of traditional and contemporary buildings. They also cover the rivers passing through the city and the canals where bridge from a strong link between the parts. These rivers and canals formed a significant element in the city formation. These studies did not cover the visual impact of these bridges nor have documented evidence about their attributes and significance on the whole city especially. This study tries to through the period 1870 – 1958 this study tries to fill …
Creative Chaos And Effect On The Livable City, Mohammed Qasim Al Ani, Wurood Adeeb Khamees
Creative Chaos And Effect On The Livable City, Mohammed Qasim Al Ani, Wurood Adeeb Khamees
Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
The city is a complex entity and needs the integration of several urban systems. Urban systems, including the development plans and the strict building codes, will lead to the loss of part of the creativity and vitality of urban dwellers. When these laws and plans lose control of the city, the needs of the occupants will be clearly visible, sometimes leading to uncontrolled urban chaos. However, this disorder to count as the driving force of life that drove occupants like Baghdad residents to express their needs. The city life and its complexity will appear through several criteria governing their regularity …
Safety Standards Must Be Met For Fire Fighting In Educational Workshops In Industrial Secondary Schools In The Arab Republic Of Egypt, Ibrahim Mahmoud Hassan, Wael Ahmed Rady, Walid Mahmoud El-Nahas
Safety Standards Must Be Met For Fire Fighting In Educational Workshops In Industrial Secondary Schools In The Arab Republic Of Egypt, Ibrahim Mahmoud Hassan, Wael Ahmed Rady, Walid Mahmoud El-Nahas
Emirates Journal for Engineering Research
The aim of the research is to establish safety standards for fire fighting within educational workshops in industrial secondary schools to determine the structural requirements for designing workshops in educational buildings and meet international standards. To achieve this a questionnaire was made and data collected for analysis and hypothesis testing using the statistical package of social Sciences (SPSS). Through the adoption of a number of different statistical methods and after conducting the analysis of research data and testing its hypotheses find a number of results, most importantly that the standards conform to international and local standards . The results also …
