Abstract ̶ This paper discusses Building Information Modelling (BIM), notably the 5th Dimension of BIM, which covers cost management functionality in the BIM workflow. The research proposes an efficient digitised workflow that can facilitate the appendage of an International Quantity Surveying (QS) Cost Code to a consistent parameter in the objects of the model. This paper firstly outlines how QSs are currently inserting ‘user defined’ information by adding their cost Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to an existing parameter, such as the ‘keynote’ or ‘assembly code’. Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been formally adopted by many countries with the promise of creating greater economic, social and sustainability benefits. Several authors and institutions have presented alternative BIM policies and tactics which have been adopted by developed countries. Concrete slabs in multi-level commercial building projects contain many components that become no longer visible once concrete has been poured. As building designs advance and continue to locate components in concrete, it is important to document what these slabs contain in order to verify accurate craftsmanship and allow for improved future construction workflows and building modernizations. Spatial movements of workers and equipment should be carefully planned according to project plans. In particular, it is crucial for workers’ safety to prepare emergency evacuation paths according to changing construction site configurations and construction progress. However, creating evacuation paths for all crews for each day can be an extremely labor-intensive task if it is done manually. Consequently, in most construction projects, evacuation plans are not provided to managers and crews throughout the entire construction.
