While conducting fieldwork in southern Idaho during the summer of 1980, I came upon numerous examples of a type of cabin not previously documented. This report attempts to determine how this type fits with other known cabin types, and to find its place in present theories about American vernacular architecture. By making use of extant reports, historical photos, and archeological site forms, it is apparent this cabin type can be found throughout the Rocky Mountain region.
