ASEAN Journal of Community Engagement

The current AJCE edition brings together meaningful discussions of community engagement programs as ways to disseminate various skills towards better society livelihood, focusing on product-making skills, women-led soft skills for families, and marketing skills. Elaborating on these objectives, this issue consists of four research-based articles and three case-based articles. The authors of this edition come from the background of economy, chemistry, community, psychology, and education—enabling diverse understanding of skills for the community and the means of how these skills can be acquired from different knowledge backgrounds.

This study examines initiatives intended to enhance community empowerment in the tourism village of Kembang Kuning, Central Java, Indonesia. One problem facing this community is an inability to carry out effective promotion to realize the tourism potential of the village. Despite the Kembang Kuning village’s potential qualities for tourism, there is a lack of local knowledge about marketing and communication strategies. The lack has hindered efforts to make the village known nationally. Rural entrepreneurship is believed to be one of the most strategic ways to advance community empowerment that can directly lead to national economic development, by optimizing local resources, technology, and digitalization. This paper examines the credibility of source persons for community service projects in improving financial literacy for vocational school students in Indonesia. Improving financial literacy among Indonesian youth is a long-term effort that requires multi- collaboration between the government, financial institutions, educational institutions, NGOs, and other stakeholders. Despite its substandard position to Singapore, Myanmar, and Malaysia, Indonesia’s financial literacy proficiency has improved significantly—one of which—after being catalyzed by the government’s cooperation with higher education institutions through community service programs. Leprosy has a high incidence of physical complications that will impact directly the physiological, economic, and social status of patients. Indonesia has a high burden of the disease, and several leprosy settlements are still spread in the country. Neglasari Village, Sitanala, Tangerang serves as one of the places of residence of people who have had leprosy. The study is aimed to evaluate accountability and gender roles in enhancing the accountability of village fund and other government-related assistance during COVID-19 pandemic. This study employed an integrated framework of accountability, gender socialization theory and gender subtext theory. This study applies a case study with 2 (two) types of instruments, i.e., observations and semi-structured interviews. This paper illustrates the implementation of a community project developed based on a partnership between the community and the local university in Bungo and Tebo Regencies. The project aims to develop the local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as a strategic step to increase the regional economy, taking the form of a so- called Community–University Partnership Program in Bungo and Tebo Regencies.
