There are several theoretical models and approaches to define the leadership identity development of college students, however, none of these models adequately frame the specific leadership identity development of collegiate student athletes. The term learning organization (LO) is a widely used conversation piece in corporate cultures, particularly among managing practitioners and leaders in talent management, learning and development, and leadership development (Marquardt, Berger, & Loan, 2004). This dissertation follows a three article format. The articles represent a building upon research with the first article exploring the history of Black women leadership in the U.S. and the need to incorporate the leadership traits of Black mothers in educational leadership. The second article, through critical phenomenological inquiry, allows current college students from urban k-12 institutions to construct their mothers as educational leaders and identify traits that formal educational leaders should adopt. The purpose of this study is to investigate relationships between elementary-level educators perceptions of their schools implementation of Greens four-dimensional model of educational leadership and the percentage of students proficient in Language Arts and in Mathematics, averaged over three years. Represented by responses to twenty items selected from the 2013 state-wide administration of the Teaching, Empowering, Leading, and Learning survey in Tennessee (TELL Tennessee), school-level means at 1,187 elementary schools were obtained for each of four five-item scales that were intended to measure each dimension of Greens model. ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between student achievement assessed longitudinally in terms of ACT composite scores and state-mandated tests of proficiency and the perceived extent to which high schools have implemented Greens four-dimensional model of educational leadership.Four scales with five items each were used to measure each dimension of Greens model. The items for each dimension originated as responses to twenty items on the 2013 administration of the Teaching, Empowering, Leading, and Learning survey in Tennessee (TELL Tennessee). The study is focused on the process of leadership identity development through an in-depth analysis of the experiences of and influences on intercollegiate female student-athletes at a mid-south, mid-size university that participates in Division 1 collegiate athletics. Research was conducted within the theoretical framework of the Leadership Identity Development (LID) model authored by Komives, Owen, Longerbeam, Mainella, and Osteen (2005). The purpose of this quantitative study was to identify characteristics and establish them as key characteristics that influence leadership behavior for culturally responsive leadership. This identification clarified and attempted to offer a distinction between culturally responsive school leaders and teachers which considered synonymous. The purpose of this research was to determine the degree to which antecedents to trust impact teacher-administrator trust and to determine what impact that trust or a lack of trust had on student educational outcomes as mediated by school characteristics such as school type (elementary or secondary), percentage of minority students, and percentage of low socioeconomic students as measured by free and reduced lunch rates. A sample of 109 teachers and 46 administrators from 49 schools in rural school districts located throughout Southwest Tennessee participated in the study.
