Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Ordinal Logistic Regression (OLR) is used to predict an ordinal structured variable given one or more independent variables. In this study, OLR used to decide the level of satisfaction on SC/ST book bank scheme (ordinal independent variable), measured on a five-point Likert type scale from “completely dissatisfied-1 through completely satisfied-5, depending on the discernment of ‘life science’ and ‘engineering students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) or Tribe (ST)’. Model appropriateness depends on determining which explanatory variables considered for the model and selecting the link function (complementary log-log link function used in this study). Lgbtqia-R: Creating A Diverse And Inclusive Medical Collection At A Public Metropolitan University, Heidi Blackburn, Omer Farooq

Criss Library Faculty Publications

Information about the LGBTQIA population is difficult to collect because of the sensitive nature of the topic of sexual preference and gender identity. This paper examines our weeding project and collection development efforts to provide health care information for the LGBTQIA community at a Midwestern metropolitan university. The findings conclude that our collection was not providing sufficient, up-to-date health information for the personal and professional information needs of our patrons in the R-RZ Library of Congress range. The weeding process, strategies for working with department faculty, and the implications for an intersectional medical collection are discussed.

Are Researchers Registering Systematic Reviews In Clinicaltrials.Gov?, Gary E. Kaplan, Ms, Ahip

Academic Commons and Scott Memorial Library Staff Papers and Presentations

BACKGROUND:

ClinicalTrials.gov (CT) is an increasingly important resource for systematic reviewers attempting to identify published and unpublished clinical studies. In addition to clinical studies, however, some searches of the CT database also return systematic reviews (SRs). When I inquired about the SRs appearing in the results, the NLM Help Desk responded that “We do not recommend that systematic reviews be entered in ClinicalTrials.gov, since we only want the results of a clinical trial entered once. However, we will not refuse them if they are entered.” I wanted to find out how many SRs are included, describe their characteristics, and suggest …

An Herbal Abc Book: A Contribution To Information Available To Children And Adults, Linda Jo Kirkland Jan 2008

An Herbal Abc Book: A Contribution To Information Available To Children And Adults, Linda Jo Kirkland

Graduate Research Papers

From Neanderthal to New Age times, plant medicine has been shown to be used by people seeking relief from ailments. There is a lack of information available for children to learn about the simple herbal remedies used by their ancestors even though herbal remedies are commonly used in this country. These plant remedies are both culturally and medically significant. People use herbal medicine to a great extent without consulting medical professionals. Therefore, a research based herbal ABC book would be a significant addition to children’s literature in this country, both as information for children and adults, and as a conversation …
