Incivility has infiltrated our institutions of higher learning as well as the world of nursing. All too familiar in nursing is the phrase “eating their young,” which aptly describes how nurses treat other nurses, even though they should be nurturing and caring professionals.

The investigator explored nursing and health science students’ perceptions of student and faculty uncivil behaviors within the academic environment, seeking the levels and frequency of the problem. The aim of Improving Oral Care Practices and Aspiration Risk Assessment to Mitigate Risk of Hospital Acquired Pneumonia is to decrease rates of hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP) on a 16 bed Transitional Care Unit (TCU) with a mixed skill staff. The theme of the project is risk reduction with improved patient outcomes and cost reduction as reasons for implementation. Fourteen cases of HAP were reported in the last 5 quarters which accounts for 48% of all in-patient acquired infections. This quality improvement project aimed to improve routine well-child exam rates in accordance with the American Academy of Pediatrics and Texas Health Steps recommendations through the implementation of a parental notification system. Missed well-child appointments impact health care by disturbing continuity of care and complicating preventive care services. Implementation of the parental notification system during June 2017 to August 2017 consisted of 100 patients from birth to 18 years of age for scheduled well-child visits in a pediatric clinic with a large Hispanic and Medicaid population. This quality improvement translational project was intended to increase the confidence of nurses screening for intimate partner violence, through education. The project utilized a focus group and the Physicians Readiness to Manage Intimate Partner Violence Survey to gather needs, knowledge gaps, and prior education to develop IPV education for a group of nurses at a public health department. Nurses were found to have a low level of IPV knowledge, with a mean score of 42.44 (SD= 15.13), on a 100-point scale. Six of the nurses also reported less than one hour of previous IPV training in the past. Nurses reported …

VWF is a protein that binds to factor VIII; an essential clotting protein and platelets in the blood vessel walls that aids in production of a platelet plug during the clotting process (National Hemophilia Foundation, n.d.). In the United States, many at risk youth continue to attend school with school nurses on the frontlines. This evidence-based project aimed to improve self-care and decrease the 30-day readmission rates in cardiology clinic heart failure (HF) patients. Thirty-day HF readmission rates, pose a financial burden to hospitals and consistent patient engagement and education in self-care among HF patients can decrease health care utilization, reduce mortality and improve quality of life. Patients received HF education during the first post-discharge clinic visit followed by weekly telephone calls.
