Vertical Bracket Position And Occlusal Plane Angle Affected The Perception Of Smile Esthetics, Nadda Manoonsin, Paiboon Techalertpaisarn

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Background/objectives To evaluate the attractiveness of smile arcs obtained by different vertical bracket positions and occlusal plane angles (OPAs). Materials and methods Three dental models represented tooth position after leveling with three bracket positions: a conventional bracket position (Con) according to a guideline based on tooth measurement, and bracket positions resulted in extruding (Ext) or intruding (Int) the maxillary incisors. Photographs of the three models were taken at OPAs of 5, 10, and 15° to the true horizontal. The photographs were digitally morphed onto a posed female smile. Nine smile arc photographs were obtained and assessed by a group of …

Correlation Study Between Fractal Properties Of Pre-Operative Bone Trabeculae And Primary Implant Stability Quotient, Napassorn Kangvansurakit, Patita Bhuridej, Atiphan Pimkhaokham, Onanong Chai-U-Dom Silkosessak

Background/objectives Resonance frequency analysis (RFA) is a non-invasive method for implant stability evaluation by implant stability quotient (ISQ) value. However, RFA cannot provide pre-implant placement prediction. Therefore, a new method for pre-surgical outcome projection is still needed. Fractal dimension (FD) is a radiographic quantitative analysis for bone complexity, which might be use as a stability predictor at the time of treatment planning. This investigation aimed to study the correlation between FD and ISQ Materials and methods Patients, receiving implant placement at Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University between 2013-2017, were screened according to study criteria. Inclusion conditions included presence of ISQ …

Oral Angiomyolipoma: Report Of A Rare Case And Review Of The Literature, Wichuda Kongsong, Sompid Kintarak Jul 2017

Oral Angiomyolipoma: Report Of A Rare Case And Review Of The Literature, Wichuda Kongsong, Sompid Kintarak

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign tumor that usually affects the kidney. Extrarenal AML is uncommon. Intraoral AML is extremely rare and only 13 cases have been reported in the English-language literature. Although oral AML shares the terminology with renal AML, it presents as solitary mass not associated with tuberous sclerosis complex and is negative for human melanoma marker HMB-45. This article reports a rare case of intraoral AML presenting on the hard palate of a 52-year-old male patient. The surgical excision of this lesion was considered curative and no recurrence has been documented. The literature concerning intraoral AML is also …

Short-Term Compliance With Stabilization Splints In A Group Of Thai Patients With Temporomandibular Disorders, Siriya Pakanimit, Atinuch Malakul, Suknipa Vongthongsri Jan 2017

Short-Term Compliance With Stabilization Splints In A Group Of Thai Patients With Temporomandibular Disorders, Siriya Pakanimit, Atinuch Malakul, Suknipa Vongthongsri

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Objectives To investigate short-term compliance rate in the usage of stabilization splint in temporomandibular disorders (TMD) patients and to analyze the difference in compliance rate classified by the treatment outcome of occlusal splint therapy. Materials and methods A prospective observational study was conducted. The sample group consisted of 90 TMD patients receiving stabilization splint treatment in the Department of Occlusion, Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University during January to June 2016. Patients were asked to complete a questionnaire during a period of 14 days after splint insertion in order to determine the compliance to occlusal splint therapy, experience of adverse effects …

Curcumin Promotes Bone Marrow Stromal Cell Viability And Attenuates Tnf- -Induced Prostaglandin E2 Synthesis Via Cyclooxygenase-2 Suppression, Varittha Thongtan, Supaporn Suttamanatwong Jan 2017

Curcumin Promotes Bone Marrow Stromal Cell Viability And Attenuates Tnf- -Induced Prostaglandin E2 Synthesis Via Cyclooxygenase-2 Suppression, Varittha Thongtan, Supaporn Suttamanatwong

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Background Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is the main mediator for receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL)-mediated osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption in periodontitis. Bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) secrete PGE2 in response to pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). Curcumin, a polyphenolic compound from the turmeric plant, possesses an anti-inflammatory effect by downregulating key mediators of inflammation. Objectives This study examined the effect of curcumin on the process of PGE2 biosynthesis in TNF-α-stimulated BMSCs. Materials and methods To investigate curcumin cytotoxicity, mouse ST2 BMSCs were treated with 1-50 μM curcumin and cell viability was determined by the MTT assay. …

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Objectives The aim of this study is to evaluate the technical image quality and radiation dose of the DentiiScan 2.0 cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanner before widespread clinical use. Materials and methods Image quality was measured for 4 scanning protocols of the DentiiScan 2.0, using 2 dedicated test objects: the SEDENTEXCT IQ phantom and the QRM-ConeBeam phantom. The following image quality parameters were evaluated: contrast-detail, contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), spatial resolution, grey value uniformity, metal artefacts, and geometric accuracy. Radiation dose was measured using a calibrated ionization chamber placed at the isocenter of rotation, allowing for the calculation of the dose-area …
