Clinical Studies Of Voiding Dysfunction Among Asymptomatic Diabetic Subjects, Liu-Ing Bih, Su-Ju Tsai, Chien-Ning Huang, Ming-Miau Tsai, Ya-Chun Lai

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Uroflowmetry and ultrasonic residual urine measurements had been done to 85 urologically asymptomatic diabetic patients and 20 control subjects. The prevalence of voiding dysfunction was 60% (51/85), and increased residual urine was found in 27% (23/85) of diabetic patients. The abnormal findings included increased residual urine (23/85), interrupted urine stream (9/85), voiding with abdominal strain (31/85), low flow rate (28/85), and enlarged bladder capacity (6/85). The group with voiding dysfunction had lower maximal and average flow rate, longer voiding time, and larger residual urine amount than the diabetic patients with normal voiding function and the healthy controls. The voiding volume …

Chemical Toxins (Field Manual Of Wildlife Diseases), Milton Friend

Other Publications in Zoonotics and Wildlife Disease

Many kinds of potentially harmful chemicals are found in environments used by wildlife. Some chemicals, such as pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), are synthetic compounds that may become environmental contaminants through their use and application. Other materials, such as selenium and salt, are natural components of some environments, but contaminants of others. Natural and synthetic materials may cause direct poisoning and death, but they also may have adverse effects on wildlife that impair certain biological systems, such as the reproductive and immune systems. This section provides information about some of the environmental contaminants and natural chemicals that commonly cause avian …

Family And Child Psychosocial Functioning Of Infant Heart Transplant Recipients, Kimberly R. Freeman

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

With the advancement of medical procedures, heart transplantation has become a viable alternative for infants born with congenital or acquired heart disease. Although these children are thought to experience much improvement in their overall physical functioning post-transplantation, the long-term psychological functioning of these children and their families is currently unknown. This study examines the long-term family functioning and psychosocial development of infant heart transplant recipients in comparison to children with congenital heart disease (CHD) and non-clinical control children. Results indicate that infant heart transplant recipients and their families experience fewer overall problems as compared to the CHD group, and more …

Smile: An Esthetic Point Of View(การยิ้ม : แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับความงาม), Rud Sooparb, Issarawan Boonsiri

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Smile is a complicated system to express emotions. It was formed by both skeletal tissue and soft tissue. In the investigations of hard tissue, sella-nasion to mandibular plane (SN-MP) and sellanasion to palatal plane to upper incisal edge are the comprehensive factors. For soft tissue studies, nasolabial fold acts as the keystone of the smiling mechanism. The circumoral muscles play and important roll in 2 stages to raise upper lip first and then lip and fold are raise as well as contracted later. As smile was formed, it represented high, average, and low smile line. Upper lip that touches gingival …

Characteristic for both tongue and extraglossal lesions is the migration, which may wax and wane with the periods of remission. Histologically, the epithelium at …

Reliability Study And Features Of Falling Tendency When Standing In Unilateral Hemispheric Stroke Patients, Ling-Fu Meng, Shi-Dong Jush, Mei-Hsiang Chen Sep 1999

Reliability Study And Features Of Falling Tendency When Standing In Unilateral Hemispheric Stroke Patients, Ling-Fu Meng, Shi-Dong Jush, Mei-Hsiang Chen

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

”Astasia(inability to stand)” is a popular and immediate result after onset from stroke. Health professionals usually label astasia as ”poor” standing performance. However, few studies substantiate the falling tendency of astasia. The result of inability to stand is to fall toward one specific direction; therefore, this study used ”falling direction” as a medium to analyze the falling tendency of astasia. Three major results were found in this study. Firstly, the measurement used in this study to judge falling direction demonstrated good inter-rater reliability. Two raters' kappa value was .89, .88, .87 respectively(each p value < .001). Secondly, while comparing 5 …

Clinical Debonding Simulation Study Of One Metal And Two Ceramic Brackets, Hyunsup Shim

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The purpose of this study is to compare two mechanical debonding methods on ceramic brackets (TP MXi and 3M Clarity) and a metal bracket (GAC OmniArch) with four different bonding materials (light-cured, one-step chemical-cured, two-step chemical-cured, and Fuji GIC) in clinical simulation, where the diametral force was applied on the handle of the pliers. The effectiveness of mechanical debonding technique was determined by evaluating the following variables: the amount of force required to debond the bracket, the amount of residual adhesive remaining on the enamel surface, the frequency of unexpected bracket failure, and the prevalence of visible enamel damage. The …
