Through the efforts of the Cambodian people and historians, the world is familiar with the tragic human story that unfolded over decades of war and the brutal rule of the Khmer Rouge. Globally, illegal logging poses a significant threat. This results in environmental damage as well as lost profits for legitimate wood product producers and taxes for governments. A global value of $30 to $100 billion is estimated to be associated with illegal logging and processing. Field identification of wood species is fundamental to combating species fraud and misrepresentation in global wood trade. Using computer vision wood identification (CVWID) systems, wood can be identified without the need for time-consuming and costly offsite visual inspections by trained wood anatomists. Over the past few decades, university level US Forestry and Wood Science and Technology programs have faced declining enrollment. As a result, the seeming disinterest of younger generations has impacted employment in these sectors. In an attempt to bridge the communication gap among colleges/industries, this study was created to attract the interest and maintain the enthusiasm of new generations of professionals and currently enrolled college students in the United States. In September 2021, an online survey was created and distributed to over 1500 alumni and students and received 1,495 usable surveys. This study investigates the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the framing of news about China/Chinese by three selected Nigerian Newspapers, The Punch, The Nation, and The Sun. A total of 350 articles mentioning China or Chinese were examined using the content analysis method to determine the news writers' dominant frames. The research employs the qualitative method. Three frames emerged as dominant in the analysis, the Economic Consequence Frame, the Human-Interest Frame, and the Conflict Frame. Common integrated vegetation management (IVM) practices including herbicide and mowing applications on right-of-ways and forages were evaluated on green antelopehorn populations near Starkville, MS. Live stems in each plot were counted prior to treatment application and approximately one year after treatment (YAT). Analysis of the stem counts 1YAT indicated aminopyralid+metsulfuron, imazapyr, picloram+2,4-D, maximum rates of triclopyr ester or choline, glyphosate, imazapyr+aminocyclopyrachlor+metsulfuron reduced the number of green antelopehorn stems compared to the untreated. Aminocyclopyrachlor, aminocyclopyrachlor+chlorsulfuron, aminopyralid, aminopyralid+2,4-D, dicamba+2,4-D, foramsulfuron+iodosulfuron+thiencarbazone, fluroxypyr, hexazinone, metsulfuron, metsulfuron+chlorsulfuron, nicosulfuron+metsulfuron, sulfometuron, sulfosulfuron or low rates of triclopyr did not reduce the stem count 1YAT when compared to …

One of the biggest threats facing the Endangered ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) is the illegal pet trade. This study compares genotypes of 20 pet L. catta to a geographically-referenced allele frequency database of 4 wild populations (n=35) in attempt to determine their source population. This study will have many conservation implications.

This study sought to determine the efficacy of Ranomafana National Park (RNP) in preserving genetic diversity and gene flow in black-and-white ruffed lemurs (Varecia variegata). Results indicate that RNP successfully promotes gene flow between V. variegata groups, although genetic diversity at this site is low compared to other lemur taxa.

Previously, the exact phylogenetic relationship between the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) and the red panda (Ailurus fulgens) has been unclear, but with the advent of molecular sequencing technologies, these two animals are now known to be distantly related. Although taxonomically distinct, these two panda species have several things in common, primarily their almost exclusively bamboo diet, but also their similar physical adaptations to their diet and their sympatry in some locations. What was unknown was if their similarities also extended to their gastrointestinal tract (GIT) microbiota. In this study, the Computerized Memory Interference Test (CMIT), a derivative of the Picture Memory Interference Test (PMIT) was assessed for reliability, validity and internal consistency with a primary Spanish-speaking sample. Five hypotheses were formulated and tested. For the first hypothesis correlational studies assessing relationships between the CMIT scores and those of the WMS-III, Visual Reproduction subtests were used to establish convergent validity. Hypotheses two and three, produced correlational studies to assess relationships between the CMIT scores and those of the RAVLT and WAIS-III Block Design, Vocabulary and Matrix Resonating subtests. Unmanned air vehicles have been increasing in their autonomous capabilities. This research furthers these capabilities by focusing on the automation of landing site determination for rotorcraft in urban environments. Automated landing saves energy and allows the aircraft to choose areas that are safe for people and the aircraft. Two methods are used to gather information about the terrain of potential landing sites. One method is 3D reconstruction from multiple camera images. The other method uses a range sensor to reconstruct the terrain. Both of these methods create an inertial terrain map of the environment in the form of a point …
