Oral Health In Long-Term Care Facilities: A Systematic Review, Eman Zaman
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Oral health in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) is becoming an increasing concern as the older population grows bigger. The oral hygiene of residents in nursing homes is deteriorating which may attribute to lack of education given to caregivers. A literature review was conducted using electronic databases such as PubMed, ProQuest, and PsychINFO to explore oral health in LTCFs and workforce’s roles in providing oral care. Findings across eight studies highlight the inadequate care residents are receiving due to several barriers resulting poor oral health outcomes. Measuring The ‘Dose’ Of Person-Centred Care In Aged Care: Development Of Staff And Family Questionnaires, Davina Porock, Junxin Li, Yu-Ping Chang
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Aims: To develop a theoretically and psychometrically sound instrument to measure the ‘dose’ of person-centred care practice in long-term care.
Background: Although person-centred care has been adopted for long-term care across the world, there is a lack of theory-based instruments to measure its impact. Two questionnaires were developed to measure person-centred care from the perspectives of staff and family based on current person-centred care frameworks: Kitwood, Nolan, and Eden Alternative.
Methods: Phase I: literature review and focus groups identified potential items for the questionnaires. Phase II: academic experts, local staff, and family members of residents assessed content validity. Phase III: …
Impact Of Staff Education On Geriatric Polypharmacy, Valerie Ikemefuna
Impact Of Staff Education On Geriatric Polypharmacy, Valerie Ikemefuna
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Polypharmacy, the simultaneous use of multiple drugs to treat a single ailment or condition, is a
major health problem among the elderly population that contributes to adverse drug side events,
health risks, hospital readmissions, morbidity, and mortality. Therefore, a staff education
program geared toward reduction of such adverse drug events was implemented at a single site.
The purpose of the project was to determine if the staff education program would increase
knowledge of adverse drug events due to geriatric polypharmacy. The Orem theory provided the
theoretical support for the project, and the Iowa model guided the evidence-based practice
change process. …
