Theology Of Moosa’S Significance In The Quran From A Unique Perspective Of A Muslim Student In The United States, Kashif J. Farooqi
CGU Theses & Dissertations
As a Muslim studying Islam in the United States of America, I want my paper to focus on the holy book of Muslims, the Quran. Specifically, my focus will be to discuss the significance of Moosa or Moses in the Quran, with a theological perspective. I will answer the following question regarding Moosa in the Quran. Is the mention of Moosa in the Quran linked to the Jewish influence on Muhammad and if not, what is the reason of Moosa being mentioned so many times in the Quran? To answer the above question, I will explore two aspects of Moosa …
Contemporary Sundanese Quran; A Departure Or Divine Proximity?, Taufiq Hanafi
Contemporary Sundanese Quran; A Departure Or Divine Proximity?, Taufiq Hanafi
Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia
The Sundanese are deeply immersed in Islam, as exemplified by the adage, “to be Sunda is to be Muslim”. An important initiative within this cultural-religious context is the translation of the Quran into low vernacular Sundanese, departing from the formal and codified language forms of the original. Despite concerns about potential textual transgression, this translation negotiates linguistic barriers and reinforces cultural identity within the Islamic framework. This paper examines the contemporary Sundanese translation of the Quran, Ayat Suci Lenyepaneun (1989), and argues that its use of low colloquial Sundanese not only enhances the Quran’s legibility but also establishes an immediate …
Adam And The Names, Saqib Hussain
Adam And The Names, Saqib Hussain
Theological Studies Faculty Works
This paper examines the naming episode in the Quran's Adam story, in which God teaches Adam “the names, all of them”, to counter the angels' objection to the creation of the human creature on the basis that he will “spread corruption … and will shed blood”. I try to show that the traditional understanding of this narrative in Western scholarship, which connects it ultimately to the Genesis 2 episode in which Adam names all the creatures of the land and sky, fails to do justice to a close reading of the quranic text itself. Instead, I argue for an alternative …

The Deletion Of The Feminine Marker In The Noble Qur’Anic Text: Readings In Trends Of Linguistic Thought, Hamdi Jabali
Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث
This study relates to some aspects of the purposeful deletion of the Arabic feminine marker “ha’” in the Noble Qur’anic text. It has resulted in a lot of controversies among Arab grammarians and linguists which, by their turn, have indicated that the Arabic Language uses particles followed by words to serve certain purposes; however, Arabic deletes these particles in special contexts and circumstances. The researcher aimed to explore the deletion of the marker and the reasons for such a deletion in qur’anic texts only in order to collect as many linguistic features as possible of the Arabic language that allow …

Then talked about when the reader ignores the rules of Stopping and Starting (or the so-called Unfavorable Stopping), and its effect in misleading the listener into understanding the wrong meaning. Afterwards, I talked about the how the experienced reader who possesses high rhetorical decency would change and …

Faith And Freedom: The Qur’Anic Notion Of Freedom Of Religion Vs. The Act Of Changing Religion And Thoughts On The Implications For Malaysia, S.Z. Ismail
Research Publications (2016 to 2020)
The issue of freedom of religion has always been situated at the intersection between human rights, personal freedom of choice, religious belief, and apostasy. While freedom supporters argue that one is free to choose his or her religion, including changing religion, the Qur’an has made it clear that Islam allows changing of religion so long as it is from any religion to Islam and not from Islam to another religion. Apostatizing from Islam is one of the gravest enormities cautioned with eternal punishment. In interpreting the meaning of freedom of religion and restricting it from the “freedom” to change religion, …

The Best Of Stories: Yusuf As Joseph In Hebrew Translations Of The Qur'an, Eve Woogen
The Best Of Stories: Yusuf As Joseph In Hebrew Translations Of The Qur'an, Eve Woogen
Classical Mediterranean and Middle East Honors Projects
The Qur'an, the sacred book of Islam, has been translated from Arabic into Hebrew four times. These works are influenced not only by the usual concerns of cross-cultural translation, particularly the translation of sacred texts, but also by the dynamic between Islam and Judaism. This dynamic is especially apparent in the case of narratives present in both the Qur'an and the Hebrew Bible, such as the story of Yusuf. By examining this story as it appears in these Hebrew translations of the Qur'an, I demonstrate how all four translators acknowledge and incorporate information from the parallel Biblical narrative of Joseph.
