Stand Your Ground But For Who? The Criminalization Of Black Women In Self-Defense Laws, Kayla Mae Blount
Stand Your Ground But For Who? The Criminalization Of Black Women In Self-Defense Laws, Kayla Mae Blount
Florida Atlantic University Undergraduate Law Journal
"Stand Your Ground" is an American statute based on the legal notion of "castle doctrine."14 Stand Your Ground is the protection of the responsibility to not retreat and stand your ground, granting any citizen the right to use lethal force without fleeing from a "reasonable" threat. However, the implementation of these laws has been marred by racial bias and systemic discrimination, resulting in unequal outcomes for Black people, particularly women, who find themselves in situations when self-defense is required. In evaluating multiple cases of black woman failing to successfully claim self-defense under Stand Your Ground laws, we seek to understand …

Indonesian Journal Of Applied Linguistics: A Bibliometric Portrait Of Ten Publication Years, Abdul Syahid
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Bibliometric portraits of a single journal appear to be rarely taken in the field of applied linguistics. Viewed from the angles of publication, citation, and indexation, one of the journals worth a bibliometric portrait is the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics. Casting local and regional concerns on the global applied linguistics, the journal has ranked among the big five Open Access Journals in the Asiatic region since its foundation in 2011. Capturing a corpus of 426 documents by 824 authors from 144 organizations through two free bibliometric tools, i.e. Publish or Perish and VOSviewer, this study portrays the journal …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
A comprehensive citation analysis-based methodology for selecting the world scientific serials to be included in information environment for researchers in a specific natural or technical science is featured. The indices taken for serials evaluation were: total citedness of a serial in the selected journals specialized in OOS; the “discipline impact factor” (Hirst 1978) i.e. the impact factor which numerator is the magnitude of a serial citedness not by all the …

Periodicals In Transition: Politics And Style In Victorian Higher Journalism, David Blaine Walker
Periodicals In Transition: Politics And Style In Victorian Higher Journalism, David Blaine Walker
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Covering a period roughly from the mid-1820s through the early-1880s, this dissertation investigates transformations in the style and substance of political discourse practiced in British organs of “higher journalism.” Animating certain key moments and figures along the way, it explains the shift from a periodical market dominated by the anonymous, lengthy treatises found in quarterly reviews like the Edinburgh Review (f. 1802) and its rivals, to an industry dominated by monthly reviews that generally eschewed both the anonymity of its contributors as well as the prohibitive length of its predecessors. In exploring this transition from the “Age of the Quarterlies” …
