Considering The Historical Houri In Early Islamic History, Vivek K. Rallabandi

This paper examines the question of how the houri (heavenly maidens in Islamic theology) figure into the historical context of early Islam. While the houri have been the subject of much discussion in terms of contemporary affairs, it is worth exploring how the houri may have played a utilitarian role in the growth of Islam. This paper conducts that analysis.

The life of Abu Jafar al-Tabari passed during a period when the Abbasid state was weakening and disintegrating, and clashes and disagreements occurred in various parts of the caliphate. Even though, science and education developed, and authoritative works were written in numerous fields. Abu Ja’far Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari created important works on Islamic studies, especially on tafsir, fiqh, adab, and history. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the life and scientific heritage of the scientist. The Intertwining Of History And Heritage In Islamic Contexts, Shahzad Bashir

This chapter argues that Islamic history should be imagined as an ever-expanding web of overlapping and competing discourses about the past. Islam’s transhistorical presence is an illusion that is borne of the historiographical process. Clusters of evidence we can identify pertaining to Islam are traceable to moments with their own distinctive senses of past, present, and future. Consequently, what is to be regarded as Islamic heritage depends fundamentally on the frame within which it was produced. Moreover, scholarly appreciation of heritage is itself a value-laden enterprise that participates in the creation of Islamic meanings. I advocate that we pay utmost …

The 1956 Soummam conference is considered a turning point for Algeria’s National Liberation Front (FLN), due to a platform that asserted the supremacy of political over military objectives and the corollary importance of diplomacy and public relations. For domestic outreach, the FLN turned to a small publication that had debuted months previously - El Moudjahid - giving it a heightened profile and a new importance.
