Multimodal Transportation Planning, Chen Peng, Tia Boyd, Kristine Williams

Mavs Open Press Open Educational Resources - Archive

OERTransport Multimodal Transportation Planning introduces readers to the principles and practice of integrated land use and transportation planning. The primary focus of the textbook is on planning for the mobility needs of all transportation system users, with an emphasis on pedestrian, bicycle, automobile, and transit modes while reducing society’s dependence on the automobile for personal travel.

Providing individuals with a choice of clean, efficient, and affordable mobility options is a key strategy for reducing the effects of climate change, improving public health and safety, and achieving more equitable and livable communities. To address these policy objectives, students are expected to …

Faculty And Dean Attitudes Toward Institutional Civic Responsibility, Mutual Trust, And Civic Mindedness At Two Year Colleges, David W. Kobilka Jan 2021

Faculty And Dean Attitudes Toward Institutional Civic Responsibility, Mutual Trust, And Civic Mindedness At Two Year Colleges, David W. Kobilka

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

Two year colleges are often characterized as America’s “democracy colleges” implying a difficult to implement dual mission of democratizing education for all, and advancing the democratic purpose of civic engagement. Although such goals may be explicit in a college’s mission statement, how faculty or their deans receive that mission is not well-documented. Research suggests that for a college to advance a civic mission, those involved must themselves be civically minded. Moreover, for any mission to succeed, faculty and their deans must trust one-another. However, there is scant research specific to two-year colleges in these areas. This research attempted to address …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This study used a quantitative correlational method to examine the correlation between self-care, burnout, compassion satisfaction, and secondary traumatic stress among higher education faculty members across multiple disciplines. One hundred and fifty-one participants from two higher education institutions and Listservs provided feedback for the study. Participants completed a demographics questionnaire and two surveys, the National Alliance in Mental Illness Self-care instrument and the Professional Quality of Life scale. Moving The Needle: Early Findings On Faculty Approaches To Integrating Culturally Competent Pedagogy Into Educational Spaces, April Jackson, Marla A. Parker, Lisa Turner, Ivis Garcia Zambrana, Trisha Holmes, Ellen Shiau, Christina Medina

eJournal of Public Affairs

This article summarizes findings from a qualitative study conducted with faculty and administrators in public affairs programs at four U.S. higher education institutions—two in urban planning and two in public administration—regarding the integration of culturally relevant pedagogy within their degree programs, colleges, and universities. Other studies have examined the prevalence and effectiveness of cultural competency (CC) curriculum and the role diversity plays for students and faculty in achieving a meaningful CC education. This study focused specifically on faculty and administrator perspectives on the experience of conceiving, planning, and implementing measures to integrate CC into their teaching. The authors’ early findings …
