Synthesis, Characterization, Molecular Docking, And Anticancer Activity Of Triazole-Derived Trinuclear Metal Complexes (Tat3), Eman M. Ramadthan, Khansaa Shakir Al-Nama, Ammar H. Al-Sabawi
Baghdad Science Journal
A novel series of trinuclear coordination complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) was synthesized using a triazole-based ligand, namely 4-amino-5-((bis((4-amino-5-thioxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methyl)amino)methyl)-2H-1,2,4-triazole-3(4H)-thione, (TAT3) in an alcoholic medium. The obtained complexes were investigated using a comprehensive set of physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques, including CHNS elemental analysis, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV–visible spectroscopy, proton and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (1H and 13C-NMR), mass spectrometry, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and molar conductivity. Structural and surface morphology assessments were further carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The spectroscopic and analytical data confirmed that …

Baghdad Science Journal
A new Schiff–Mannich base ligand derived from 1,3,4-thiadiazole was synthesized via the reaction of 2-amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole with sulfabenzamide and indoline in the presence of formaldehyde, yielding N–(4-((5-(2-oxoindolin-3-ylideneamino)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-ylthio)methylamino) phenyl thiolperoxy) benzamide (L). Six multivalent metal complexes were subsequently prepared with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Pd(II), Pt(IV), and Au(III) ions. The ligand and its complexes were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques, including FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR, while magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements were performed for the complexes. Infrared analysis revealed tetradentate coordination of the ligand to all metals, with octahedral geometries for most complexes and square planar geometries for …

This work aims at synthesizing chalcone derivatives using Acetophenone and benzaldehyde derivatives as the primary components. The chalcone compounds [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] have been produced through Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction, which involves combining benzaldehyde derivatives (such as 4-bromobenzaldehyde, 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, 4-(dimethyl amino)benzaldehyde, and o-Nitro benzaldehyde) with acetophenone or its derivatives. This reaction takes place when an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and ethanol are combined at room temperature. The generated products were examined employing carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance 13C-NMR, proton nuclear magnetic resonance 1H-NMR, ultraviolet (UV), and infrared (IR) spectroscopic techniques. Each compound was tested to determine how …

Gold has long been recognized for its medicinal applications, dating back centuries. The use of N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs), stable, tunable ligands, has revolutionized the development of metal complexes, particularly those involving gold. Among these, Au-NHC complexes have shown significant promise in treating various diseases, especially arthritis and cancer. More recently, our research has focused on synthesizing dual-targeting naphthoquinone-annulated NHC-based gold(I) complexes, which have demonstrated impressive therapeutic potential in cancer treatment. This emphasizes the growing importance of gold-based complexes in developing more selective and effective cancer therapies. By strategically tuning the electronic and steric properties of these complexes, we have explored …

The human microbiota is now understood to be intimately linked to host physiology. Recent studies indicate that microbiota species which possess a biosynthetic gene cluster – termed clb – contribute to the development and progression of colorectal cancer. Bacteria possessing the clb gene cluster are correlated to colorectal cancer (CRC) in humans, initiate colonic tumor and polyp formation in murine models, and induce DNA interstrand cross-links in cell models. Furthermore, clb+ bacteria induce a unique mutational signature which has been detected in a number of human tumor samples. Early studies by Oswald and co-workers established that the final product of …

This project focuses on the optimization of benzothiazole-based chromophores to utilize them as fluorescent tags functionalized onto stimuli-responsive, or “smart,” polymers as non-viral gene delivery vectors for gene therapy applications. Blue-fluorescent emissive chromophores will allow tracking capabilities for the transfection pathway of the vector to be monitored as it delivers the DNA payload within intercellular space. The most appropriate chromophore must be covalently bound to a free amine within the vector, which is accomplished through NAS chemistry from fluorophenyl-benzothiazoles (F-BTZ-CBz) derivatives to amidated hyperbranched poly(ethyleneimine)(HPEI-IBAm0.61). HPEI is considered to be a synthetic polycation, which promotes tunable solubility through characteristics of …

As complex organisms, animals and humans rely on a delicate interplay between many connected systems to maintain proper cellular and whole-body function. Oxygen regulation and homeostasis are vital for proper function in healthy cells, as are core components of aerobic metabolism and efficient ATP generation to supply our energy needs. Maintaining pH homeostasis is also of primary importance; cells maintain pH homeostasis through a host of active and passive transporters to maintain pH balance both inside and outside of the cell.
Events of uncontrolled cellular proliferation, also known as cancer, survive and thrive under conditions that perturb the delicate balance …

Annual Postdoctoral Science Symposium Abstracts
The mission of the Annual Postdoctoral Science Symposium (APSS) is to provide a platform for talented postdoctoral fellows throughout the Texas Medical Center to present their work to a wider audience. The MD Anderson Postdoctoral Association convened its inaugural Annual Postdoctoral Science Symposium (APSS) on August 4, 2011.
The APSS provides a professional venue for postdoctoral scientists to develop, clarify, and refine their research as a result of formal reviews and critiques of faculty and other postdoctoral scientists. Additionally, attendees discuss current research on a broad range of subjects while promoting academic interactions and enrichment and developing new collaborations.

Chemistry Theses and Dissertations
Chemiluminescence is the light emission from a chemical reaction. The excited state is accessed in the course of a chemical reaction and relaxes to the ground state with the emission of a photon. Independence from the need for light excitation gives chemiluminescence several advantages over fluorescence including better signal-to-noise ratio and reduced background at deeper tissue imaging depth. As a result, the sensitivity of chemiluminescent probes for biological analyte detection has been improved significantly. Because of the sensitivity of chemiluminescent probes, we are planning to use this technique to quantify important factors for biological activities.
In this dissertation, two quantification …
