The current research explores the intersection of archives, history, food, and performance. Based on a case study from Løp Gård, a museum site within Nordlandsmuseet in Norway, the museum performance director (museumsregissør in Norwegian) Barbro Laxaa has developed a book that presents historical recipes created by former generations of Løp Gård’s owners. Laxaa explores methods of performing memory and the spirituality of place, positioning food as a catalyst that unites the lived experience of audiences with archival material and historical recipes rooted in the site. As part of a study day organized in September 2025 at the University of Grenoble Alpes in partnership with the Centre National des Arts Plastiques entitled “The Loss of Images: Research and Creative Narratives,” Pascale Cassagnau and Suhaib Gasmelbari discussed his film Talking about Trees (2019), focusing on the film’s sources and structure, the history of Sudanese cinema that it reveals within the film itself, and the metaphors of trees and plants as lifelines and living archives at a time when images have disappeared.

Kamal Aljafari’s A Fidai Film draws on Palestinian archives confiscated by Israel in Beirut in 1982. Diana Allan created Partition using archives from Mandatory Palestine held at the Imperial War Museum in London. The film notebook not only refers to a type of fragmentary editing, but also allows us to revisit the relationship between sound and image, thus offering an exercise in remembrance in the present. By adding sound to images, the two filmmakers question the contradictions inherent in archives, their erasure or their resistance to authoritative or propagandistic discourse. This practice-based research develops Ecologies of Poetic Forensics, an investigative mode for approaching political disappearance as a felt, ongoing condition that also reverberates across worlds beyond the human. Focused on my father's disappearance during Venezuela's 1960s revolutionary movement, the research follows relational dynamics within the personal, political, ecological ‘many worlds’ (Indígena Zapatistas 1996) shaped by state violence, including those of campesinos (land-based workers) in Cocorote, Lara State. The inquiry unfolds across Venezuela, Canada, and the United States, tracing territory that exceeds state borders.

The National Library has been collecting, preserving and making the documentary heritage of Ireland available to the public since 1877 and cares for over 12 million items today. In 1926 it became a legal deposit Library so by law one copy of each book and periodical published in the Republic of Ireland must be deposited here. The NLI also acquires books and manuscripts through purchases, such as auctions or private sales and we receive donations of materials into our collections, from individuals and organisations. In 2021, the Rayfield Archives migrated from Archon to ArchivesSpace. During the transfer, we asked “Does our repository reflect all of our campus communities?” While we do collect administration-focused records, we also collect affinity and service group records and faculty papers. We ran reports to identify percentages of demographics represented in our collections with little success. Anderson-Zorn began work on creating a controlled vocabulary to apply processed and accessioned materials to understand trends in collecting and identify areas that need improvement.

This thesis explores the integration of applied ethnomusicology within the recorded sound archive of the New York Public Library. The process of repatriating recorded sound through community engagement lead to the development and eventual reparative work of outdated subject headings and other descriptive language within the archive. This thesis also explores how cultural preservation of similar non-physical fields such as naming conventions within linguistics and the development of gastronationalism combats globalization and ultimately colonization.

The answer to the question “What is the future of special collections?” is one that has evolved in scope over the past twenty-five years. Through the late twentieth century, the role of the special collections librarian seemed largely curatorial: to conserve these precious, unique resources—rare books, archival material, and other unique collections— for posterity and for “serious” researchers. The practice of funding public art through the CUNY Construction Fund and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) began after a 1966 New York State Law created a financing and construction partnership between the two entities.

This paper will look at how the processing efforts of an archivist mirror that of an autobiographer through the shared motivation of adding to the cultural memory or textual canon of a society. For archival purposes, the typical steps of ingesting, preparing, and presenting a collection are creation, capture, arrangement/description, and pluralization. To create an autobiography, writers take the memories that have been created and experienced due to events in their lives and capture those memories via recording in the literary form known as autobiography. I picked the donated material from the American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter Education Program for two reasons. One: I attended that program 3 years ago where I, not only satisfied my foreign language requirement but played with the idea of getting a career interpreting. Two: I wanted to process a batch of material straight from the donor rather than all the under processed stuff I've been dealing with during my internship. Through the course of this capstone, I was fortunate to run into my old teachers I had during my stay in the Interpreter program.

This project takes a cross-disciplinary and multi-genre approach to Transgender (Trans*) Studies to proliferate diverse and ambiguously-gendered representations of trans* experiences across time. It identifies the emergence of rhetorical intertextuality in recent trans* literatures as a discursive response to the biopolitical regulation and erasure of ambiguously-gendered, trans* experiences. It identifies the intersecting influences of twentieth- and twenty-first-century medical paradigms, surveillance apparatuses, popular trans* autobiographies, and archives in representing and exceptionalizing certain trans* experiences over others. The W.T. Carter and Brother Lumber Company began in 1898 and operated until 1968 when it was sold to the U.S. Plywood Corporation. The Polk County, Texas company harvested longleaf pine during a crucial period of development for the Texas economy. The lumber industry was the state’s first large scale commercial enterprise not dependent on farming and provided a model for future extractive industries in the state. The W.T. Carter and Brother Lumber Company town of Camden, Texas exemplifies rural implementations of the company town system in the Texas lumber industry. The result of this process is a vast, albeit scattered, archive of texts that deal with practices and institutions of leisure.
The archive of leisure, as it pertains to cinema, can be located across a variety of texts including memoirs, short stories, student essays, police records, official discourse, medical texts, and works by Iraqi historians.
