A Partnership With Special Olympics, Organized Dentistry, The Community, And Two Dental Schools, Phillip Ashkar
Virginia Dental Journal
The document discusses a partnership involving Special Olympics, organized dentistry, the community, and two dental schools to address the oral health disparities faced by individuals with special needs, particularly those with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD). It highlights the challenges these individuals face in accessing appropriate dental care due to a lack of specialized resources and providers. The partnership's efforts include providing free dental services through events like the one held on June 10, 2023, where dental students and professionals offered comprehensive care to underserved populations. Despite these efforts, the document emphasizes the ongoing need for systemic changes to improve …
Servant-Leadership: Forgiving Others In The Restoration Of Community, Ryan Schmidt, Kelly (Sasha) Dailey
Servant-Leadership: Forgiving Others In The Restoration Of Community, Ryan Schmidt, Kelly (Sasha) Dailey
International Journal of Servant-Leadership
Servant-Leadership, Feminism, and Gender Well-Being (Song et al., 2022) serves as a source of inspiration and hope when engaging with the complexities of the modern world, one marked by a growing division between people and an increased entrenchment of ideals. In looking to servant-leadership as a guide for navigating the emotional and deeply personal rhetoric pervading public forums, learnings can be found beyond the established dominant-group ideologies and mainstream reasonings. The purpose of this article is to explore how servant-leadership, an emerging leadership theory that acknowledges one’s natural feeling to serve others’ highest priority needs (Greenleaf 1977/2002), can provide a …
Symposium On Leadership Competencies For Peace Leadership: An Overview And Invitation, Whitney Mcintyre Miller
Symposium On Leadership Competencies For Peace Leadership: An Overview And Invitation, Whitney Mcintyre Miller
Education Faculty Articles and Research
"This Symposium proposes eight leadership competencies, presented by experts in each area, as examples of ways in which leadership can be aligned with peace in order to bring about sustainable, positive change. This Symposium does not argue for just another list of leadership skills and practices, but rather, illustrates that when leadership competencies are intentionally combined with peace practices, we can engage in the work of peace leadership: leading our communities, organizations, and societies toward peace and equitable justice. Therefore, this Symposium utilizes these competencies as a “jumping off point” to nudge the field of leadership studies to begin to …

Leadership Emergence And Factors Preventing Emergence Of Elders In The Churches Of Christ In The Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, Francis Brown
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study investigates the persistent absence of formally appointed elders in five Churches of Christ within Teshie in the Ledzokuku municipal assembly, Ghana, despite these congregations’ existence for over two decades. The research seeks to critically examine the factors contributing to the inability of long-serving leaders to align with biblical qualifications. Utilizing a case study methodology, the research examines leadership emergence within the congregations, exploring the discrepancy between tenure and adherence to scriptural standards, and emphasizing the causes and implications for leadership effectiveness and spiritual integrity that facilitate or obstruct the ordination of elders. The study employs a qualitative research …

Provision of non-invasive vascular imaging results to individuals has been shown to improve cardiovascular disease risk factor control: its impact on diet remains uncertain. In this two-arm, single-blind, parallel, 12-week randomized controlled trial, 240 participants, 57.5% females aged 60–80 y had abdominal aortic calcification and clinical assessments performed at a hospital clinic. Participants were randomized 1:1 to receive (intervention n = 121) or not (control n = 119) their calcification results. Both groups received educational resources on cardiovascular disease risk control and were unblinded to the intervention. Outcome measures were performed at baseline and 12 weeks. The primary outcomes of …

Impacts Of Double Biopsy And Double Vitrification On The Clinical Outcomes Following Euploid Blastocyst Transfer: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Kate Bickendorf, Fang Qi, Kelli Peirce, Rui Wang, Jay Natalwala, Vincent Chapple, Yanhe Liu
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
STUDY QUESTION: Compared to the 'single biopsy + single vitrification' approach, do 'double biopsy + double vitrification' or 'single biopsy + double vitrification' arrangements compromise subsequent clinical outcomes following euploidy blastocyst transfer? SUMMARY ANSWER: Both 'double biopsy + double vitrification' and 'single biopsy + double vitrification' led to reduced live birth/ongoing pregnancy rates and clinical pregnancy rates. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY?: It is not uncommon to receive inconclusive results following blastocyst biopsy and preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A). Often these blastocysts are warmed for re-test after a second biopsy, experiencing 'double biopsy + double vitrification'. Furthermore, to achieve better …

Emergent Leadership: A Novel Perspective Of Frontline Clinical Leadership, Eduardo C. Chavez, Linda H. Yoder
Leadership Connection
Session presented on Friday, September 26, 2014:
Approximately, 44,000 - 98,000 preventable deaths and over 1 million patient injuries occur yearly due to medical errors in health care delivery in hospitals in the United States (U.S.). Despite changes to health care policies and systems, improvement of the quality and safety of patient care have not met expectations because rates of preventable deaths and harm remain high in the U.S. More recently, the promotion of leadership at the point-of-care has been proposed as a strategy for improving the quality and safety of patient care. In the landmark report, The Future of …

Empowering Entrepreneurial Evolution: A Beyond Founder Strategic Approach To Small Business Growth, D. Jared Knisley
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Growing a business beyond its founder’s capacities and talents presents a challenging undertaking. When a founder is no longer involved or motivated to grow the business, firm decline is a likely outcome. Small businesses often have a deep and, at times, hindering reliance on their early founders for development. Therefore, a continuous engaging plan to advance entrepreneurial success is needed to grow a small business.
My research objective aims to find methods and designs, through academic literature and practitioner interviews, that transition leadership responsibilities and increase team empowerment within a small business, enabling these firms to continue growing as the …

Background: Currently, there are no agreed quality standards for post-stroke aphasia services. Therefore, it is unknown if care reflects best practices or meets the expectations of people living with aphasia. We aimed to (1) shortlist, (2) operationalise and (3) prioritise best practice recommendations for post-stroke aphasia care.
Methods: Three phases of research were conducted. In Phase 1, recommendations with strong evidence and/or known to be important to people with lived experience of aphasia were identified. People with lived experience and health professionals rated the importance of each recommendation through a two-round e-Delphi exercise. Recommendations were then ranked for importance and …

The Narrative Inquiries Of How Community School Directors Implement Servant Leadership At Full-Service Community Schools In New York City, Stephen R. Campbell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Children and their families face increased barriers to accessing programs in low-income communities. In response to this concern, community schools employ community school directors (CSDs) who connect students and families with essential services across organizational boundaries. This study was designed to provide insight into the leadership characteristics of the CSD as a servant leader by determining if they engage with any of the 10 servant leadership qualities described by Spears (2010). There is limited research on the leadership practices of CSDs in low socioeconomic status areas. It is therefore necessary to conduct research on how CSDs foster collaboration between schools …

Virtual Reality: Communication Channels, Trust, And Board Oversight, Nicola Faith Sharpe
The Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review
Post-pandemic, corporate directors, executives, and other employees are frequently found working from home as part of the modern global remote workforce. Since 2020’s pandemic necessitated mass exodus from the in-person workplace, working remotely has become the default for many. Quite the opposite of a transient phenomenon or a global pandemic stopgap measure, remote work is here to stay. It has changed more than the location of where business is conducted. It shifted the primary professional communication medium from face to face communications to virtual, computer mediated communications.

Mentoring Emerging Leaders As It Relates To Senior Leadership Succession, Kevin D. Neal
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this case study was to explore the effects that a leadership mentoring plan had on the development of emerging leaders within the ministry of the International Ministry Network of Churches (IMNC). This study also sought to determine future leadership readiness regarding succession. This church fellowship currently does not have an established mentorship program in place, and without a successful plan for preparing new leaders for the future of the IMNC, the organization's growth and perpetuity can be potentially impacted negatively. The research was conducted by surveying senior local church leaders within the IMNC to assess their current …

Emergent Leadership, L2 Oral Proficiency, And Social Networks During Study Abroad, Nicole C. Whitby
Theses and Dissertations
Research shows that study abroad (SA) provides a unique, yet varied outcome for students seeking to improve their target language oral proficiency during study abroad SA (Freed et al., 2004). Contemporary work in second language acquisition (SLA) during SA has looked beyond individual behaviors of sojourners to analyze social networks as a structure with significant influence on outcomes, yet emergent leadership has not been addressed within social network analysis in SA. To address this gap the current study employed a computational social network approach. This mixed methods study analyzes the social networks of 30 SA sojourners from a large private …

Libraries
The author presents highlights from a paper accepted at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. A 12-minute videorecording is also available.
Gender and leadership research has traditionally employed a binary framework, overlooking the experiences of transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) leaders and forcing leaders of all genders and intersectional identities into a dichotomous frame. This paper reviewed interdisciplinary literature using a robust search strategy in three academic databases and Google Scholar, as well as across eight leadership studies journals. Sixteen sources involving 440 leaders’ experiences were found. The author conducted a thematic analysis to explore how TGNC leaders’ experiences challenge …
Psychosocial Well-Being Facilitation Of Leader Identity Transitions For Retirees, Brooke Wells
Psychosocial Well-Being Facilitation Of Leader Identity Transitions For Retirees, Brooke Wells
Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–
Leadership scholars have worked to advance the knowledge of leader identity—how one views oneself as a leader—across many age groups. However, there is still little known about leader identity in older adults. This study explored how older adults identified as leaders after exiting the workforce and in retirement. The retirement process often indicates a transition in which one plans to navigate life post-workforce. For some, retirement may be a signal of growing older. Social identity theory scholars argue that retirees do not always embrace this aging identity. Individuals’ thoughts regarding aging are complex. For those able to embrace and navigate …

Shared Leadership And Its Influence On Millennials' Performance In A Work Group, Beverlyn Denise Trimble
Shared Leadership And Its Influence On Millennials' Performance In A Work Group, Beverlyn Denise Trimble
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Millennials have been constructed in the popular imagination as self-centered, bratty, and difficult to manage. Finding ways to relate to this generation has taken on more urgency now that it is the largest in the workforce. Company leaders realize as well that they can no longer rely on traditional forms of leadership amid the proliferation of complex adaptive systems and digital technologies; one leader does not possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to handle the complexities faced by contemporary organizations. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the behaviors and experiences of millennials who work in a shared …
How Leaders Make Sense Of Esg To Lead Sustainable Businesses: Multiple Case Studies, Tiffany M. Crosby
How Leaders Make Sense Of Esg To Lead Sustainable Businesses: Multiple Case Studies, Tiffany M. Crosby
PhD in Organizational Leadership
This multiple case qualitative research study involved an exploration of ESG leadership in four publicly-traded Midwestern U.S. sustainability-oriented companies to determine what the process of leading ESG looks like, how sustainability leaders integrate environmental, social, and economic goals, and how an organization’s internal and external affect sustainability leadership. Numerous quantitative studies have linked prevailing behavioral leadership theories to improved financial performance outcomes for sustainability-oriented companies, but qualitative research into ESG leadership practices has been limited, creating a gap that is addressed through this study. Using a conceptual framework grounded in upper-echelon and stakeholder theories, the ESG leadership practices of an …

A food composition database estimating S-methyl cysteine sulfoxide (SMCSO) was created following a systematic literature search. SMCSO data (705 entries) from 19 vegetables were summarised: brassicas (n = 10) and alliums (n = 9). The highest SMCSO in brassicas was reported in Brussels sprouts (median [range]: 318 [68−420] mg/100 g fresh weight (FW)) whilst the lowest was in radish (19 [4–45] mg/100 g FW). Brussels sprouts were almost twice as concentrated in SMCSO as cauliflower, followed by cabbage, kale, broccoli, kohlrabi, swede, Chinese cabbage, and turnips. The alliums highest in SMCSO were Chinese chives (271 [185−413] mg/100 g FW) followed …
