Portland State And The Downtown Portland Plan - 50 Years Later With Ethan Seltzer, Ethan Seltzer
PDXPLORES Podcast

In this episode of PDXPLORES, Professor Emeritus Ethan Seltzer discusses the 1972 downtown plan and how Portland State evolved into an urban-serving university alongside the downtown corridor.

Analysing Urban Energy Transition In Light Of The Energy Conservation Act, 2001, Madhubanti Sadhya
Articles
The interplay of legislative division and inter-ministerial convergence in India impacts energy conservation efforts across states, reflecting socio-economic disparities. Urban areas, central to energy efficiency initiatives, face challenges due to varying state-level political and economic contexts. Effective implementation of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, and urban development policies necessitates tailored approaches and robust data tools for mapping and tracking energy use. Bridging central and state policies is crucial for achieving uniform energy efficiency and meeting national energy transition targets.

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies
This article explores the response within the Seventh-day Adventist Church after Ellen G. White’s death to the dual emphases in her writings on the city and rural living. On one hand she strongly encouraged large Adventist institutions and families raising children to locate out of the cities. This was because of the advantages natural surroundings have on physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, and to shield children and young adults from the evils and temptations of the city. Historical Articles and Essays
The year 2022 marked the 50th anniversary of the City of Portland's 1972 Downtown Plan, one of the most consequential plans in the city's history. It put in place a vision for a public, pedestrian-scaled, multipurpose, and vital downtown.
Through the requirements adopted in the Downtown Plan and subsequent public and private investments stemming from it, Portland's core area became an international icon for central city recovery. That plan also formally identified Portland State University as the city's "urban university."
This paper begins with an examination of the history of the urban university idea in the United States, followed by …
