Summary Report: Essential Programs And Services Career And Technical Education Component Review, James E. Sloan, Amy F. Johnson, Sharon Gerrish

School Funding - Essential Programs and Services (EPS)

Background

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) funding model was implemented in FY2019 after a lengthy period of development. The component was scheduled for a review in FY2020 and FY2021 as part of the ongoing cycle of analysis of all major components of Maine’s Essential Programs and Services (EPS) education cost model. Due to the breadth and complexity of the CTE funding model, and the fact that this is the first time it has been reviewed to see how it is being implemented in actual practice, the findings have been broken into several sections. Appendix A provides the overall plan …

Developing A Curriculum To Combat Loneliness As A Public Health Concern In Businesses, Sophia Yelkin May 2022

Developing A Curriculum To Combat Loneliness As A Public Health Concern In Businesses, Sophia Yelkin

Capstone Experience: Master of Public Health

Loneliness has been considered a public health epidemic affecting people across the world. Elderly populations have historically been considered most at risk for loneliness, but it is becoming evident that loneliness is not so selective. Younger generations show more signs and symptoms of loneliness than older generations. This often overlooked condition is attributable to decreased mental and physical health and can weaken performance in the workplace.

This capstone project creates a concise curriculum addressing loneliness for dissemination in the workplace, ensuring appropriate health literacy for the priority population. Understanding the pervasive nature of loneliness, identifying symptoms, and methods to counteract …

Preventing Brand Activism From Backfiring: How The Use Of An Ingroup Model Can Limit The Negative Effects Of One-Time Csr History, Cole C. Dunnam Apr 2022

Preventing Brand Activism From Backfiring: How The Use Of An Ingroup Model Can Limit The Negative Effects Of One-Time Csr History, Cole C. Dunnam

LSU Master's Theses

Brands are beginning to engage in corporate social advocacy (CSA) with social movements to form deeper connections with their audience, but not all are successful. This thesis asks why a brand’s target audience considers some CSA campaigns as more authentic than others. In Study I, I use Twitter data to conduct an exploratory analysis that applies existing research to two extreme CSA cases: Nike’s Emmy-winning “Dream Crazy” campaign starring Colin Kaepernick and Pepsi’s unsuccessful “Live for Now– Moments” campaign starring Kendall Jenner. Pepsi failed despite its history of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. I suggest that group identity theory impacts …

Posters are an important part of scholarly and professional communication. In an effort to encourage students at the School of Library & Information Science to be active participants in these types of events, students may participate in an optional student symposium, but they are required to create research posters in their capstone LIS 695. These are helpful resources and recent examples.

Schmucker Art Catalogs

Artists, perhaps to emphasize their own dedication to the intellectual and manual skills required for making art, have long been drawn to the theme of labor, both in their depictions of workers and scenes of making. In the late seventeenth century, Dutch paintings frequently portrayed earnest and diligent artisans performing trades at shops or on the streets. Later, rapid economic, social and political changes throughout Europe in the mid-nineteenth century led to a more radical approach to realist representations of labor. This exhibition ART/WORK: Labor, Identity, and Society considers these art-historical precedents to explore the issues of labor in art. …

Stroke Clustering And Fitting In Vector Art, Khandokar Shakib

Senior Independent Study Theses

Vectorization of art involves turning free-hand drawings into vector graphics that can be further scaled and manipulated. In this paper, we explore the concept of vectorization of line drawings and study multiple approaches that attempt to achieve this in the most accurate way possible. We utilize a software called StrokeStrip to discuss the different mathematics behind the parameterization and fitting involved in the drawings.

Ar-Sculptures : Issues Of Technological Creation, Their Artistic Significance And Uniqueness, Tetiana Sovhyra

Journal of Urban Culture Research

The threat of the Covid-19 epidemic quickly influenced the development of remote working tools using modern IT technologies. This has led to the emergence of a significant number of cultural practices for remote (virtual) use. Among them are experimental attempts to create volumetric virtual models that could be considered sculptures. At the same time, these developments have served the emergence of culturological problems: solving questions of uniqueness, artistic significance of works of this kind. In this regard, this article provides the results of a scientific study of the specifics of creating virtual sculptures, authorship issues and artistic significance of virtual …
