Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This study addressed the role of emotional intelligence among healthcare chaplains and its place in delivering patient-centered care at Adventist healthcare, Maryland. The study assumed that since healthcare chaplains’ journeys with their patients help them process their feelings as they understand the nature of their illness, they must identify their feelings and that of their patients to provide better care. It further examined the role of personality in determining its relationship with emotional intelligence and how it would influence patient-centered care. Enhancing Pastoral Care And Support By Providing Opportunities For Spiritual Growth And Transformation To Crisis And Trauma Sufferers, Angela Roberts Jones

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Trauma experiences are becoming more prevalent in today’s society. For example, each day, the media reports the widespread impact of war, gun violence, domestic and international terrorism, violent crimes, sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, mass shootings, and natural disasters in the general population. The church has long been considered a place of refuge, hope, and healing for people who suffer from crises and trauma. It is often the first place Christians and the surrounding community turn in times of distress. Because pastors and churches are often the first responders when people experience crises and traumatic events, there …

The researcher asked nine open-ended questions to encourage and facilitate reflective responses. After grouping responses with similar answers, the researcher coded the chaplains’ responses to determine themes that would describe and somehow encompass the phenomenon of serving as a chaplain in a war theater. Throughout the study, the …

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study is an exploratory, qualitative research study of nonpaid caregivers for advanced cancer patients. Fifteen caregiver participants completed semi-structured interviews. The patients for whom they provided care lived at home and were diagnosed with advanced (stage 3 or 4) cancer. The original site of cancer and involvement in treatment was not important for the study. Research recruitment prioritized caregivers residing in rural settings, knowing these areas often lack resources. During the semi-structured interviews, caregivers discussed their perceived challenges and rewards, discussed their stressors and how they managed stress, and discussed their supports. Caregivers addressed the impact of caregiving on …
