Providing Students With Multimodal Feedback Experiences, Dan Martin
Providing Students With Multimodal Feedback Experiences, Dan Martin
Journal of Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Education
In higher education, feedback is an effective but underappreciated teaching tool that expands students’ opportunities for learning. Students need more formative feedback that can lead to dialogic experiences, and they need more feedback experiences in different mediums and modes. Providing students with multimodal feedback that is formative may lead to more dialogic experiences for students and improve their learning. Multimodal feedback experiences benefit all students, including those from diverse and disabled communities. This paper examines some of the advantages and limitations of written, audio, and video feedback and argues that feedback that is primarily formative and delivered using multiple modes …

Magic Medicine, Bruce St. Amour, William B. Dehart
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Background
A superstition is a belief or practice that is considered irrational, resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance or a false conception of causation. In medical settings superstitions often arise from attempts to assign causation to events that are either random, or in which all information is not available. In this manuscript, we present a descriptive review of the literature related to superstition in medicine and present the results of our own data; that one’s age is equal to the chance of being admitted from the emergency department.

Case Of Enterococcus Cecorum Human Bacteremia, United States, Alexander D. Lake, Ryan Fields, Francia Guerrero, Yousef Almuzaini, Koravangala Sundaresh, Joseph Staffetti
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Enterococcus cecorum rarely serves as a human pathogen, and only 6 cases of this microbe inoculating humans have been documented. We present an elderly female with a marked vascular history presenting with epigastric pain and diarrhea, followed by shaking chills. Laboratory findings revealed leukocytosis, with imaging showing diffuse colonic thickening. She had a bout of bloody diarrhea, raising the likelihood of ischemic colitis with her vascular history. To our surprise, both sets of blood cultures drawn on admission grew Enterococcus cecorum. This case is unique as it is the first documented case of E. cecorum human infection in the …

Dissertations
This research explores the everyday lives of urban women from various social strata in Istanbul between 1930 and 1960. It designates the implications of the Republican reforms in urban spaces and concentrates on untold stories of women who belonged to varying social settings and professions. The everyday life of the city became more complex with the increase in participation of women during these decades. This research examines the myriad ways in which women asserted themselves in the urban fabric, following three threads. First, women's leisure and economic activities in the newly built public squares are investigated. Then, industrial workers and …

Rehabilitation Is Associated With Lower Mortality In Patients With Dengue Fever In Intensive Care Units: A Retrospective Study, Hsin-Han Cheng, Chin-Ming Chen, Willy Chou
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Objective: The study aimed to examine the effect of rehabilitation on mortality in patients with dengue in intensive care units (ICUs). Design: This was a retrospective cohort study. In this study, 142 patients with dengue from ICUs were enrolled from August to December, 2015. They were divided into two groups: patients with or without rehabilitation. The relationship between rehabilitative therapy and the risk of dengue-related mortality was assessed using a multivariate Cox regression model after adjustment for related variables. Results: Of the 142 patients, 70 (49.3%) were men, and the mean age was 69.97 ± 15.93 years. The average length …

Film Music Of Uzbekistan In The Context Of The Problem Of The Synthesis Of Arts, Shoyista Ganikhanova
Eurasian music science journal
The visual interpretation of the film image by means of musical art has developed into a special area of composer's creativity. Having applied significance, film music has developed certain tendencies and genre-style parameters, a complex system of functioning of its illustrative properties has developed. Accordingly, the spectrum of interaction between music and images is very wide and diverse. The technical features of the creation of a film work influenced the formation of new forms of interconnection of expressive means. Experience in applied genres has led to the formation in the Uzbek school of composition, a peculiar national style and artistic …

Zoomprov. Improvisation Exercises For Language Learning In Online Classes With Zoom Or Similar Tech For Beginning And Intermediate Learners And Beyond, Mona Eikel-Pohen
Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics - All Scholarship
The improv language exercises in this compilation are chosen from the experience I gathered 20 years ago, but also from the amazing work of Lauren Esposito and Scranton Improv & Comedy that have been more real than anything else to me this past summer, and from Jim Ansaldo, who taught me how to structure improv exercises online. They are organized by level, referring to the Common European Framework of References for Languages. That means, A1 exercises can be conducted at the beginners level but also at all other higher levels, but B2 exercises should not be imposed upon beginners or …

Blast Shock-Wave Characterization In Experimental Shock Tubes, Sudeepto Kahali
Blast Shock-Wave Characterization In Experimental Shock Tubes, Sudeepto Kahali
Dissertations
Blast-induced traumatic brain injuries have affected U.S. soldiers deployed for extended periods in the gulf and Afghanistan wars. To identify the biomechanical and biochemical mechanisms of injury, critical in the identification of diagnostic and therapeutic tools, compressed gas-driven shock tubes are used by investigators to study shockwave-animal specimen interactions and its biological consequences. However, shock tubes are designed and operated in a variety of geometry with a range of process parameters, and the quality of shock wave characteristics relevant to field conditions and therefore the study of blast-induced traumatic brain injuries suffered by soldiers is affected by those conditions. Lab-to-lab …

College of Health and Human Services
Objectives: Microvascular dysfunction in skeletal muscle is involved in metabolic and vascular diseases. Microvascular endothelial cells (MEC) are poorly characterized in the progression of associated diseases in part due to lack of availability of MEC from various animal models. The objective was to provide a fast, simple, and efficient method to isolate murine MEC derived from skeletal muscle. Methods: Dissected abdominal skeletal muscles from C57BL/6J mice at 8 - 12 weeks of age were enzymatically dissociated. MEC were isolated using a modified two-step Dynabeads™-based purification method. With a combination of Dynabeads™ - Griffonia simplicifolia lectin-I and Dynabeads™ - monoclonal antibody …

Environmental Protection, The Military, And Preserving The Balance: “Why It Matters, In War And Peace”, Kurt Smith
Seattle Journal of Technology, Environmental, & Innovation Law
International military operations around the world are major actors on the world stage of global pollution. The United States military remains subject to federal, state, and local environmental laws. However, many exemptions exist to assist the military despite its status as a global polluter. Many environmental policies have incrementally developed over the last one-hundred years largely as a reaction to the most extreme circumstances. Scientific knowledge continues to increase our awareness of the lasting impacts of policy decisions relating to the environment, giving rise to the precautionary principle, that notion that we should do no lasting harm, in our care …
