In this thesis I wanted to apply the Sen’s framework in Development as Freedom to college campuses. In my experience at Claremont McKenna College, I have seen how some students are able to take advantage of the resources better than others. Given that we were all accepted by the same admissions office, I always questioned why did some students know how to take advantage of the system. In order to explore this, I first discuss Sen’s capability approach. Universities are increasingly using metrics such as publication and citation counts to measure faculty research productivity and impact, and to compare productivity and impact across departments and institutions. Canadian law schools are facing pressure to adopt similar metrics. In this article the author argues that publication and citation counts are not reliable indicators of research productivity or impact.

In the United States, bullying against lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, and queer (LGBTQ) students is garnering greater attention from scholars, policymakers and school officials. This interest has prompted research that is providing a better understanding of these experiences, especially the frequency with which LGBTQ students are bullied. Less is known about the direct consequences of being bullied and how these harms might vary between LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ students. The present study begins to address this issue with a focus on students bullied due to their sexual orientation. Emerging adults with a lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB) identity are at greater risk for engaging in suicide-related behaviors. This disparity highlights a need to elucidate specific risk and protective factors associated with suicide-related behaviors among LGB youth, which could be utilized as targets for suicide prevention efforts in this population. Informed by the interpersonal-psychological theory of suicide, the present study hypothesized that social support would be indirectly associated with decreased suicide ideation via lower thwarted belongingness. Whilst trans people are gaining recognition and positive attention in some respects, many continue to experience discrimination and social exclusion in everyday life. This paper will illuminate violence outside the home – in the form of hate crime – and the interplay with transphobia (the irrational dislike of trans people) and cisgenderism (a prejudicial ideology based on notions of gender normativity). To-date, there is a rather limited body of work detailing trans people’s experiences of hate crime, with the tendency to subsume trans people’s narratives under the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) umbrella. This article aims to identify the influences which affect the professional development choices of teachers who work with English language learners. Through a qualitative analysis of the experiences of four teachers in four different schools in two school districts, the professional development choices of these teachers are seen as a response to particular institutional forces. These influences mediate the teachers’ choices for professional learning and include concerns related to the classroom, the school site, the district, and the legislative arena. Effective orientation and balance are based on the integration of visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive sensory inputs. Vision plays a significant role in spatial orientation and posture maintenance; however, a static tilted frame or dynamic rotating visual disturbance can affect orientation and balance. Visual dependence (VD) is a term used to describe people who overly rely on visual information. Background: Patients with dysphagia often have difficulties in swallowing liquids. Using thickened liquids is a compensatory strategy frequently recommended by speech－language pathologists to reduce the risk of aspiration in patients with dysphagia . However, the thickening effects might vary with time and different thickening products. Furthermore, the desired viscosity might not be attained. This study investigated the viscosity of water that was thickened to a nectar- or honey-like consistency by using five thickening products marketed in Taiwan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh tingkat efektivitas pelaksanaan blended learning di SMK TI Udayana ditinjau dari beberapa komponen evaluasi yaitu system assessment, program planning, program implementation, program improvement, dan program certification. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi evaluatif, dengan menggunakan model evaluasi CSE-UCLA (Center for the Study of Evaluation- University of California in Los Angeles). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas, respon, dan peningkatan hasil belajar mahasiswa setelah diajar dengan menggunakan pembelajaran visual thinking disertai aktivitas quick on the draw pada materi akar persamaan tak linear. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di universitas madura dan yang menjadi subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester IV pendidikan matematika tahun akademik 2017/2018. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode observasi, angket, tes, dan wawancara. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan Problem Based Learning (PBL) berorientasi pada kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan self-efficacy matematika siswa SMP yang layak. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam jenis penelitian dan pengembangan. Model pengembangan diadaptasi dari model pengembangan Borg & Gall. Subjek penelitian adalah 32 siswa kelas VII-3 SMP N 5 Yogyakarta.
