Through self-initiated changes in their work (job crafting), employees can see greater meaning in their work than they would otherwise and thus fulfil their mission. Such an approach to work increases the individual's motivation, satisfaction and work performance, which in turn has a positive impact on work organisation. In the article, we examine the extent to which employees with different levels of education and number of years of work experience reshape their work and the consequences of the three dimensions of job crafting (changing tasks, relationships and cognitions). The analysis of a sample of 224 employees in organisations in Slovenia …

Institutional Change As A Result Of International Accreditation: Business Schools Of Lithuania After The Iron Curtain, Yelena Istileulova, Darja Peljhan
Economic and Business Review
This paper studies the effects of gaining international accreditation in business schools (B-schools) in Lithuania. As in other CEE countries, in Lithuania international accreditation has recently become one of the key solutions to achieving legitimacy for B-schools. Due to the lack of research in this area, the aim of this paper is to explore and unveil the reasons for, and the consequences of the accreditation using an institutional theory framework. A multiple case study methodology is used to answer the research questions. The findings reveal that accreditation effects represent a case of institutional isomorphism, because B-schools seek accreditation to achieve …

Seton Hall University DNP Final Projects
Purpose:Transitional care is time-limited, with the goal of ensuring safety and health continuity for at-risk patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as they move from one setting to the next. An acute care episode of COPD ranges from relatively healthy adults to adults with multiple chronic conditions or those in the end-of-life phase. The primary quality concern of an urgent need to improve health care is in response to the gaps of sufficient experience to manage patients with COPD, leading to hospital readmissions. Implementation of standards of care for the improvement of health-related quality of life (HRQL) of COPD …

Institutionalization Of Spontaneous Changes In The Process Of Internationalization Of Enterprises, Zofia Patora-Wysocka
European Management Studies
The article is an attempt of a theoretical and empirical analysis of the concept of institutionalization of spontaneous actions in the process of internationalization of enterprises. In the article the process of institutionalization of changes is perceived from the processual perspective in management, where everyday actions within routinely repeated practice constitute an important cognitive background of the analysis. International entrepreneurship is described in the literature in both behavioral and situational contexts. Internationalization, in turn, is described in the literature on this subject as a rapid or evolutionary process. Internationalization of the company can be a result of entrepreneurial activities of …

The purpose of this article is to provide a director of forensics who wishes to rebuild a forensics program with advice, ideas, and guidance based on organiza-tional theory, organizational change research, and lived experience. This article approaches organizational culture as a dynamic construct of an organization. “Proponents of the perspective of culture as a dynamic construct are interested in both a better understanding of organizations through application of a cultural per-spective and a conscious development of organizational culture” (Sackmann, 1990, p. 133). This perspective treats culture as something an organization is and something an organization has. The shaping of forensics …

Unexpected And Interrupted Transitions Among Newly Licensed Registered Nurses: Perspectives Of Nurse Managers And Preceptors, Sheri S. Webster
Theses and Dissertations
Successful retention of newly licensed registered nurses (NLRNs) into practice is critical to ensure the nursing workforce required to meet current and future health care demands. NLRN turnover rates result in loss of revenue due to high orientation costs and further hinder the development of a stable workforce. For nurse educators and administrators to effectively address early attrition among NLRNs, they must have a clear understanding of the factors that contribute to NLRNs leaving employment. The aim of this qualitative descriptive research was to explore NLRN transition to professional practice from the experiences and perspectives of nurse managers and preceptors …

Five Seemingly Insurmountable Challenges Related To Attaining Long-Term Value From Theorizing About Information Systems, Steven Alter
Business Analytics and Information Systems
Recent articles such as Avison and Malaurent (2014) and Grover and Lyytinen (2015) question taken-for-granted assumptions about the centrality of theory in research published in leading journals and the near necessity of following repetitive scripts that sometimes are an obstacle to creativity. This paper goes a step further by providing examples and observations that illustrate five seemingly insurmountable challenges related to attaining long-term value from theorizing about information systems.
1) Divergent definitions of basic terms makes it extremely difficult to accumulate IS knowledge.
2) The IS discipline seems to take for granted that knowledge must take the form of theory. …

Fight Or Flight: Mobility, Political Behavior, And Nativism In The United States, Yamil Velez
Fight Or Flight: Mobility, Political Behavior, And Nativism In The United States, Yamil Velez
Stony Brook Theses and Dissertations Collection, 2006-2020 (closed to submissions)
In recent decades, communities across the United States have seen increases in hostility toward immigrants. Prevailing theories in political science hold that responses to immigration are, in part, a function of local area demographics. However, assessments of these theories suffer from the critique that local area demographics and immigration preferences may be endogenous due to residential self-selection. Recent efforts sidestep this problem by using clever modeling strategies or experiments. Rather than viewing self-selection as a nuisance, however, this article develops and tests a theory that treats migration and political behavior as strategies residents invoke in the presence of local immigration. …
