Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Objective: Whether strengthening exercises emphasizing on internal rotators of the knee are more effective in improving shuttle-run agility of the knees with anterior-posterior laxity (AP laxity). Methods: Twenty men with AP laxity of knee were randomly assigned to the three experimental groups in different strengthening modes: plate-loaded squat press (SP), plate-loaded kneeling leg curl with internal rotation (KLCIR), and kneeling leg curl (KLC). Control group with stable knees received no training. Anterior-posterior laxity, shuttle-run agility, and isokinetic strength were evaluated before and after training. Results: Those with AP laxity of knee have poorer performance in the shuttle run test than …

Listening To Primary Schools: Australian Health And Physical Education (Hpe)., Tj Lynch
Plymouth Institute of Education
This research investigated Australian Government Primary School Principal’s perceptions of a University Pre-service Teacher Education course where the graduate teacher is qualified as a generalist primary classroom teacher and a Health and Physical Education specialist. Research suggests that the optimum time for children to learn and refine their motor skills and to be introduced to positive HPE experiences is during preschool and early primary school years. The research data was gathered using surveys completed by 138 government primary school principal participants in the state of Victoria, a large number considering the demanding role of school principal. There were two ethical …

The fights have increased in recent years, and there are many perceptions that portray its significance within the sport. The media markets physical aspects of the game, which reaches players of all ages and influences them to follow suit. A Call To Violence: Trends In Violent Content Of Video Games, Emily Molly Keller
Senior Honors Projects, 2010-2019
Violent content in video games has come under increasing scrutiny as the media highlights the potential involvement of violent games in deadly crimes. In addition, internet gaming disorder has been identified as a subject in need of further research in the DSM-V. The current study investigates whether year, genre, platform type, and victim and perpetrator identity influence the total amount of violent actions in 280 video game trailers. The hypothesis was that year, genre, and platform type would produce the most variance in total violence, but victim identity and perpetrator identity were significantly more influential. Thus, there is a tendency …

Feelings Of Connectedness To Nature: A Comparison Of Park & Recreation Management Students And Sport Management Students., N. E. Scarborough
Undergraduate Honors Theses
In the face of the present consumer-based environmental movement, leaders in many industries and disciplines are striving to understand why people are “going green” in order to market to them. Researchers have been studying ways in which people connect to the environmental movement, and researchers in the field of sport and recreation are also conducting such studies. Several surveys have been developed to measure these connections; one such survey instrument is the Connectedness to Nature Scale (CNS). In the present study, the CNS was re-created online, and a link to the survey was sent via email to students studying Park …

Sport-Type Differences In Drinking Behaviors And Motives Among St. John Fisher College Student Athletes, Carly Szydlowski

In lieu of an abstract, here is the paper's first paragraph: It is known that alcohol abuse among college students has been, and remains, a very prevalent issue in our society today; however, some may not know the extent to which student athletes consume alcohol. Green, Uryasz, Petr and Bray (2008) conducted a study for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in 2001 and found that approximately 80% of collegiate student athletes consumed alcohol on an annual basis, and that number has only risen. Not only are a large percentage of student athletes consuming alcohol, they are doing so much …
Head Coaching Gender Equality At The Division Iii Level, James Troutman
Head Coaching Gender Equality At The Division Iii Level, James Troutman
Sport Management Undergraduate
Throughout history gender discrimination has created barriers that have prevented women from achieving their desired career goals no matter what the work setting is. One way that steps were made towards the elimination of gender discrimination was the enactment of Title IX in 1972. Pervious research has examined barriers that women head coaches coaching men’s teams have had to overcome in order to acquire their position. The coaches who were used in that research either coached NCAA Division I men’s teams or all three divisions combined. The barriers these women experienced were both externally and internally barriers. The external barriers …

Sport Management Undergraduate
Studies have shown that children with behavioral disorders should be included in sports. This research looks at the comfort level coaches have with the idea of having children with behavioral disorders on their team. The research goes further into this question by looking at training as a possible option to increase the level of comfort. The study looks into the survey that was conducted and goes into further explanation as to how this affects youth sports. The discussion of the findings shows who is most affected by this research and what else can be examined.

Here it is only two days after the bowl pairings were announced and I am already approaching that semi-nauseous state of bowl fatigue. There once was a time not so long ago when that feeling didn’t set in until the second-half of the final game on January 1. Oh, for the good old days.

Avid Fan’S Impact On Casual Fans, Cory Law
Avid Fan’S Impact On Casual Fans, Cory Law
Sport Management Undergraduate
In lieu of an abstract, here is the paper's first paragraph: The lifeline of the sporting industry is the fans that attend the games, purchase merchandise, consume media, and passionately follow their favorite team or sport. Sport organizations do whatever they can to attract fans to their games and entice them to buy more tickets, merchandise, concessions and consume more of their team through social media, visits to the team website, and following the team. A critical area for these sport franchises to examine is why fans attend sporting events and what makes them a loyal fan of a certain …

Secondary School Athletic Administration Certification: State Oversights, Requirements, And Pressing Issues Athletic Directors Encounter, Christopher L. Gaddis
Secondary School Athletic Administration Certification: State Oversights, Requirements, And Pressing Issues Athletic Directors Encounter, Christopher L. Gaddis
Dissertations
The role of a secondary school athletic director is similar across the United States, although the required credentials for such a position vary immensely from state to state. The athletic administrator position was originally created to improve the oversight of the increasing demands of operating an athletic program. In the past, the number of sports and participants were much smaller than today. Because of this there has not always been a call for highly trained, educated, and experienced interscholastic athletic administrators. In this study, state executive directors/liaisons for the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association provided information regarding their states demographic …
