Foothills rough fescue (Festuca campestris) grasslands provide important foraging habitat for wildlife and livestock in the northwestern United States and southwestern Canada. Foothills rough fescue is sensitive to grazing during late spring–early summer but is believed to be more tolerant of grazing during winter–early spring. We evaluated vegetation and soil impacts from long-term winter–early spring grazing at 2 intensities (HG = heavy grazing, LG = light grazing). In the United States, there is no comprehensive energy policy at the federal level. To address issues as diverse as climate change, energy security, and economic development, individual states have increasingly implemented Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPSs), which mandate that utility providers include a specified amount of electricity from renewable energy sources in their total energy portfolios. Some states have included incentives for individual energy technologies in their RPS, such as solar electric (also called photovoltaic or PV technology). Kimboza forest reserve in Morogoro region, is an important biodiversity hotspot among the Eastern Arc forests of Tanzania. High population pressure and encroachment threatens its conservation values. This is based on a study which aimed at investigating the composition, diversity, and structure of the tree community in the forest. All trees with DBH ≥ 10cm were inventoried from 0.72ha in a total of 18 plots of 20m × 20m placed randomly from the forest edge to the interior. The accumulation of pollutants near the shoreline can result in low quality coastal water with negative effects on human health. To understand the role of mixing by tidal flows in coastal water quality, we study the nearshore Lagrangian circulation of four recreational beaches in Miami, FL, who, despite close proximity, have varying microbial levels. Specifically, we reveal Lagrangian Coherent Structures (LCSs), i.e., distinguished material curves which shape global mixing patterns and thus act as skeletons of the Lagrangian circulation. The main cause of annual fluctuations in catch and species composition of fisheries is usually uncertain, but a prevailing view has been that fishing effects are more critical than environmental variability. Filefish is a good anecdote: many Korean fisheries scientists have attributed the sudden collapse of Korean filefish fisheries in the early 1990s to overfishing, especially by trawl fisheries in the northern East China Sea (NECS). Adult sea urchins, Anthocidaris crassispina, were reared individually in running seawater equilibrated with gas mixtures containing 380 ppm (control), 1,000 ppm or 3,000 ppm CO2, at ambient natural temperature for 140 days to study effects of elevated CO2 on feed intake, fecal production, oxygen consumption, and the morphology of Aristotle’s lantern. Feed intake became significantly lower in the two high CO2 groups than in the control after 90 (1,000 ppm) or 110 (3,000 ppm) days and remained suppressed until the end of the experiment (control, 0.16 ± 0.01 (mean ± SE) g dry wt ind-1 day-1; 1,000 ppm, 0.10 ± …

A sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus) was tagged with a pop-up satellite archival tag off the eastern coast of Taiwan and moved in a northerly direction to the East China Sea, where the tag popped-up after 160 days. The total linear displacement was 550 km from deployment to pop-up location and all movements were confined to the East China Sea. After the primarily southward movement during first two months at-liberty, the sailfish changed course after September and began to swim in a northerly direction paralleling the Kuroshio Current. This present study examines the relationships between environmental risk perceptions and pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors within the theory of the risk society. This quantitative study was conducted online, with a sample size of 218 undergraduate college students from James Madison University. Environmental risks were measured at the societal and individual levels, as well as within five separate risk categories. As expected, I found positive relationships between these risks and pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors, however the relationships between individual and societal risk perceptions were different than I anticipated. Abiotic stresses cause extensive losses to agriculture production worldwide. Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is an important fiber crop grown widely in subtropical region where temperature, water and nutrients are the common factors limiting crop production. Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk

The mission of Houston Tomorrow is to improve the quality of life for all the people of the Houston. However, we have an overarching concern for protecting the futures of the children of the Houston region.

The Houston region needs to grow more connected by transit, walking, and biking with a focus on access to our major centers and attractions. We need safer streets, better access to healthy food options, and options for low-carbon lifestyles in walkable, urban, mixed-use areas. We need more people involved in regional planning and major decisions that will dictate the options of future generations.
