Previous research has shown raising a young child with a disability, such as an ASD, gives parents a unique set of challenges that impact their family including relationships among family members. Parents of young children with an ASD may experience many stressors. Some causes of stress when raising a child with an ASD are medical decisions, behavioral challenges, and financial impact. Parents develop individual coping strategies that are unique to their family and themselves. The purpose of this qualitative study was to conduct a formative evaluation of messages and materials to inform the development of a promotional, health campaign designed to increase breast cancer screening awareness and utilization among low-income, uninsured African American women through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) in Savannah and Macon, Georgia (GA). A priority of CDC is to understand why women eligible for screening through the NBCCEDP do not participate in NBCCEDP screening services as well as to identify effective strategies for increasing enrollment among NBCCEDP-eligible women who have never received breast cancer screening. Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan laboratorium virtual dalam meningkatkan keterampilan dalam praktik di lab tanpa memerlukan bantuan pendamping dan tidak terikat dengan waktu dan tempat, dan memfasilitasi pendidikan karakter bagi siswa. Virtual laboratory terdiri dari beberapa bagian yaitu: pre-test, post-tests, tugas-tugas, tutorial, simulasi, dan bahan-bahan laboratorium. Learning lab dikembangkan di dalam mata pelajaran produktif dan didukung oleh authoring tools. Virtual labs harus interaktif, dinamik, animatif, tidak membosankan dan didukung oleh keinginan pengguna untuk belajar dan memahami matapelajaran produktif. Laboratorium virtual digunakan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi siswa sekolah kejuruan dalam arti kognitif, psikomotor, dan karakter siswa.

Penelitian yang dilakukan merupakan penelitian korelasional dan bersifat ex-post facto. Penelitian dilakukan di SMK Kelompok Teknologi dan Rekayasa pada Bidang Keahlian Teknik Mesin negeri dan swasta di wilayah Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Pada model ini,populasi individu yang sebenarnya telah terinfeksi tetapi belum menunjukkan gejala-gejala penyakit tidakdijelaskan. Dalam paper ini akan dibahas mengenai pembentukan model matematika dari penyebaranpenyakit HFMD menggunakan model SEIRS. Adanya penambahan kelas populasi E (Exposed) untukmelengkapi kekurangan pada model sebelumnya. Berdasarkan model, diperoleh titik ekuilibrium bebaspenyakit dan endemik. HFMD tidak akan mewabah jika R0 ï"¼1. Selanjutnya dilakukan simulasimenggunakan MAPLE 13.

Rural residents in communities face opportunities and obstaclesfor physical activity (PA), health, and wellbeing that differ from those experienced in non-rural settings. Yet, rural people’s interpretations of PA and experience of the PA environment are understudied. This study utilized a descriptive case study approach in three rural New Hampshire communities and engaged rural residents in community participatory action research of the experiential factors that enable or prevent PA for adults and youth in their communities. Qualitative data were collected using photo mapping surveys, participant observations, interviews, and focus groups, analyzed using a constant comparative method, and triangulated across multiple sources. …

Overweight and obesity prevalence is increasing throughout the United States, and these two health conditions seem to disproportionately affect certain segments of the adult population. To date little research has examined adult differences in normal weight, overweight, and obesity by metropolitan or nonmetropolitan residential status while controlling for important demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, and health status characteristics. This research helps to fill this gap. We used data from the 2008 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) to empirically assess predictors of overweight and obesity risk for all adults and then by residential location. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan model tes yang cocok dengan data. Pengembangan item pada penelitian menggunakan pendekatan teori respons butir politomus (TRBP). Subjek ujicoba diambil dari siswa lima SMP kelas VII akhir mewakili peringkat SMP di Kota Yogyakarta sebanyak 1030 siswa. Hasil Model TRBP yang cocok dipilih berdasarkan hasil parametrisasi menggunakan PARSCALE dan deskripsi hubungan fungsional antara respons peserta tes dengan tingkat kemampuannya yang dinyatakan dalam test information curves (TIC). This paper examines the school neighborhood environments related to childhood obesity in a rural community in Texas, focusing on the assessment of three aspects: socioeconomic characteristics, food environment, and physical activity environment. Different methodological approaches were employed to characterize the aspects of the school neighborhood environments. Most public schools in the community were located in low-income neighborhoods. There were disproportionately high concentrations of fast food restaurants and convenience stores within the active travel-to-school zone. Most of the students who lived in the active travel-to-school zone did not walk or bike to school, and student safety was identified as the predominant …

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: menemukan model penguatan sikap tindak wirausaha melalui pemberdayaan Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT). Penelitian ini dilakukan di Kabupaten Semarang, Propinsi Jawa Tengah. Pengambilan sample dilakukan secara purposif sampling, dengan pertimbangan sekelompok subyek yang memiliki karakteristik: sebagai anggota KWT kategori proaktif, reaktif dan nonaktif; memiliki status sosial ekonomi rendah, berdomisili di Kabupaten Semarang. Jumlah sample 198 orang. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan (Action Research), yang diharapkan menghasilkan model dan modul pemberdayaan KWT. Hybrid aspen (Populus tremula L. Populus tremuloides Michx.) plantations are expanding in Fennoscandia and the Baltic countries; however, the possible effects of plantations on the native European aspen (P. tremula) and the level of gene flow between European and hybrid aspen have not been investigated. We studied seed quantity and quality in intraspecific and interspecific crosses of the European and hybrid aspens over a two year period. In order to study whether elevated temperatures due to climate change would benefit the species differently, we performed the crosses in different temperatures. The Plaster Creek watershed is tributary to the Grand River in west Michigan. Plaster Creek is one of several impaired streams in this area, located in metropolitan Grand Rapids. There are several listed impairments for the Creek including 1) other indigenous aquatic life and wildlife, 2) warm water fishery, and 3) total and partial body contact recreation. Total maximum daily load (TMDL) studies were completed in 2002 for biota and E. coli to address the listed impairments. Post-translational modification of bacterial elongation factor P (EF-P) with (R)-β-lysine at a conserved lysine residue activates the protein in vivo and increases puromycin reactivity of the ribosome in vitro. The additional hydroxylation of EF-P at the same lysine residue by the YfcM protein has also recently been described. The roles of modified and unmodified EF-P during different steps in translation, and how this correlates to its physiological role in the cell, have recently been linked to the synthesis of polyproline stretches in proteins. Background/Purpose: Although neuroimage studies on English-speaking stutterers have been reported previously, there was few positron emission tomography (PET) study of brain activation in Chinese- speaking stutterers. The purpose of this study was to investigate brain activation patterns in stutterers who speak Chinese.Each subject was scanned via using a PET scanner with a [18F] deoxyglucose marker. The stutterers group received two separate PET scans, one during solo reading (stuttering condition) and the other during choral reading (fluent condition). Hitherto unreported benzopyranyl sesquiterpene, uvarisesquiterpene D, has been isolated from the stem bark of Uvaria lucida ssp lucida. Its structure had been elucidated by spectroscopic analysis (IR, MS and NMR) and comparison of its spectral data with the known related compounds uvarisesquiterpene B and selin-11(12)-4α-ol. The latter compound was co-isolated with the new natural product as well as caryophyline oxide and lucidine.

The status of pesticide residues in soil samples collected from a former storage site one year after clean-up of stockpiles and treatment with NaOH was investigated. The analytes were extracted from samples by pressurized fluid extraction using n-hexane:acetone (75:25) mixture. Clean-up of extracts was conducted by using silica gel and alumina with 3% H2O and the extracts were eluted with hexane:dichloromethane (1:1). Extra clean-up was performed through C18 SPE cartridges using acetonitrile as the eluting solvent. Labelled internal standards were used for identification and quantification. Effects Of Temperature On The Physicochemical Properties Of Traditionally Processed Vegetable Oils And Their Blends, Fn Ngassapa, Ss Nyandoroa, Tr Mwaisaka

The quality and stability of traditionally processed palm, sunflower and sesame oils and their blends as affected by temperature were evaluated by analyzing their physicochemical properties which included acid, saponification, peroxide, iodine values and refractive indices.. The initial quality of traditionally processed oils studied was found to be within the specifications of TZS and Codex requirements. The results further indicate that the quality of both unblended and blended traditionally processed vegetable oils deteriorate significantly at elevated temperatures (p < 0.05). However, the blends showed relatively better quality and stability than the unblended ones whereby the formulations of palm oil (PO) and sesame oil (SSO) appeared to be more stable than those of PO and sunflower oil (SO). This work suggests that blending of traditionally processed PO, SO and SSO improves the quality and stability of these oils.

Dynamic force generation in cardiac muscle, which determines cardiac pumping activity, depends on both the number of sarcomeric cross-bridges and on their cycling kinetics. The Frank–Starling mechanism dictates that cardiac force development increases with increasing cardiac muscle length (corresponding to increased ventricular volume). It is, however, unclear to what extent this increase in cardiac muscle length affects the rate of cross-bridge cycling. Previous studies using permeabilized cardiac preparations, sub-physiological temperatures, or both have obtained conflicting results. In her article "Reimagining 'Tense and Tender Ties' in Garcia's Monkey Hunting" Yu-Fang Cho analyses Cristina García's re-narration of transnational histories of the multi-racial, multi-generational Chinese Cuban family in Monkey Hunting (2003) as a critical project that recasts developmental immigrant narratives primarily set in the United States as part of the emerging cultural archive of global migrations.
