Jesus Music: The Story Of The Jesus Movement And Evaluation Of Its Musical Impact, Shimon K. Galiley
Jesus Music: The Story Of The Jesus Movement And Evaluation Of Its Musical Impact, Shimon K. Galiley
Senior Honors Theses
Few recent historical developments have had as much impact on American Evangelical Christianity as the Jesus Movement. Dating back only a few decades, this movement resulted in the conversion of many countercultural youth and the consequent revitalization of many American churches. One of the greatest impacts of the Jesus Movement was its new music which came to be known as “Jesus Music.”
This thesis describes the history of the Jesus Movement and the musical impact it had on American Evangelical Christianity.

Using Graphic Organizers With Scriptural Text: Ninth-Grade Latter-Day Saint (Lds) Students’ Comprehension Of Doctrinal Readings And Concepts, Mark D. Potter
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study investigated the effect of instruction that included graphic organizers on LDS seminary students’ ability to understand scriptural text and their ability to identify doctrines in scriptural text, utilizing a repeated measures, quasi-experimental design involving 209 ninth-grade student participants. The participants were randomly assigned by class to one of two treatment groups. Participants in the treatment group received instruction using graphic organizers with the standard curriculum and participants in the comparison group received instruction using only the standard curriculum. Three different measures were employed to measure the effectiveness of the graphic organizers intervention: (a) a multiple-choice test of LDS …

A Hell House Divided: Performing Identity Politics Through Christian Mediums Of Proselytization, Allan N. Davis
A Hell House Divided: Performing Identity Politics Through Christian Mediums Of Proselytization, Allan N. Davis
Theses and Dissertations
Every year, during the month of October, hundreds of Christian churches throughout the United States open the doors of their Hell House to surrounding communities. Hell Houses are Christian haunted houses designed to literally scare the Hell out of visitors so they will accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. In the place of vampires or zombies, Hell Houses portray the sins Satan is mostly likely to tempt teenagers to commit. Scenes include young girls receiving abortions, young men believing lies that they were born gay, and careless individuals drinking and driving. As para-theatrical performances, Hell Houses lead …

Building On The Foundation Of The Future: The Millennial Church, Deborah Loyd
Building On The Foundation Of The Future: The Millennial Church, Deborah Loyd
Faculty Publications - Portland Seminary
The purpose of this study is to help church leaders find ways of inspiring commitment to the church among the Millennial Generation. The Millennial Generation has been abandoning traditional churches at a rate of nearly 80 percent once they leave high school, many of them never to return. My goal was to discover solutions, new ways of thinking, and possibly a new design for faith community. For this I chose to research a community where Millennials thrive, The Bridge Church of Portland, Oregon. My chapters include: The Problem in chapter 1, Literary Reviews in chapter 2, The Context of Ministry …

The Identification And Construction Of A Comprehensive Strategy To Increase Sensitivity To Children's Evangelism And Spiritual Development In The South Korean Church, Ho Jin Lee
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this project is to identify and construct a comprehensive strategy for children's evangelism and spiritual development in the South Korean church. This project results from the author's anxiety and vision regarding children's spiritual matters while serving as a children's minister for approximately 10 years. Based on diagnosis through a survey, case studies regarding five successful churches through interview questionnaires, and literature research, this project suggest an effective and practical strategy for children's evangelism and spiritual development in the Korean church. This will be helpful for Korean churches that want to focus on children's spiritual matters.

Tennessee Vans: A User-Based And Financially-Sustainable Approach To Develop Community Mobility Resources, Theodore J. Newsom, Danielle F. Meyers
Journal of Public Transportation
Although substantial resources have been devoted to the provision of the transportation infrastructure needed to support the movement of people, there still exist “mobility gaps,” especially among transportation disadvantaged groups of persons. An approach to fill these community mobility gaps is based on the experimental and evolving development and operations of Tennessee Vans over the past 20 years. The Tennessee Vans fleet has grown to 845 vehicles assigned to more than 300 community groups and organizations as part of its vehicle lease and purchase programs. Program participants include community and economic development agencies, faith-based organizations, commuter vanpools, youth-based organizations, workforce …

An Effective Internet Ministry Strategy For Church Evangelism Through A Case Study Of The Sarang Community Church, Dae Suk Lee
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purposes of this dissertation are to shed light on the essence of the church internet ministry from the biblical and ministerial angles and to suggest effective strategies for churches launching an internet ministry. In the thesis, I conducted a literary review of online ministry and a case study of the Sarang community church. Basic Web analysis, an interview, and a survey were performed to analyze Sarang's case and to draw lessons from it. I sincerely hope my suggestions on internet strategies can become a compass that points churches to the right direction as they navigate through the wave of …
The Effect Of A Manualized Group Treatment Protocol On God Image And Attachment To God, Jacqueline Diane Rasar
The Effect Of A Manualized Group Treatment Protocol On God Image And Attachment To God, Jacqueline Diane Rasar
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This study tested the effect of a manualized group treatment protocol on God image and attachment to God in a sample of college students attending a Christian college. Thirty undergraduate students from a homogenous population were tested with one measure of God attachment, two measures of God image, one measure of religious coping, and one measure of spiritual outcomes. It was hypothesized that significant God image and attachment to God change would occur among the treatment group participants. In addition, it was hypothesized that significant religious coping and spiritual outcome change would occur among the treatment group and comparable group …
