Stimulated Creation Of Quanta During Inflation And The Observable Universe, Ivan Agullo, Leonard Parker
Stimulated Creation Of Quanta During Inflation And The Observable Universe, Ivan Agullo, Leonard Parker
Faculty Publications
Inflation provides a natural mechanism to account for the origin of cosmic structures. The generation of primordial inhomogeneities during inflation can be understood via the spontaneous creation of quanta from the vacuum. We show that when the corresponding stimulated creation of quanta is considered, the characteristics of the state of the universe at the onset of inflation are not diluted by the inflationary expansion and can be imprinted in the spectrum of primordial inhomogeneities. The non-gaussianities (particularly in the so-called squeezed configuration) in the cosmic microwave background and galaxy distribution can then tell us about the state of the universe …
Ann Application In Maritime Industry : Baltic Dry Index Forecasting & Optimization Of The Number Of Container Cranes, Han Cui
World Maritime University Dissertations
This dissertation is a study of dry bulk freight index forecasting and port planning, both based on Artificial Neural network application. First the dry bulk market is reviewed, and the reason for the high fluctuation of freight rates through the demand-supply mechanism is examined. Due to the volatile BDI, the traditional linear regression forecasting method cannot guarantee the performance of forecasting, but ANN overcomes this difficulty and gives better performance especially in a short time. Besides, in order to improve the performance of ANN further, wavelet is introduced to pre-process the BDI data. But when the noise (high frequency parts) …

The main challenge in Indonesian urban conservation efforts is to determine how changes can meet our current needs without jeopardizing its unique character. Cakranegara, Lombok is one of the towns that have unique character and concept for its spatial organization. This research seeks to define the character of Cakranegara by outlining the spatial city concepts in relation to the physical character based on the socio-cultural and religious principles using questionnaires, mental mapping, visual survey and interviews. The results indicate that the grid pattern, settlement blocks and the positioning of the east-west temples have become the specific character of the city. …
Petrography And Geochemistry Of Mafic Granulites Of The Ubendian Belt: Contribution To Insights Into The Lower Continental Crust Of The Paleoproterozoic, N. Boniface
Tanzania Journal of Science
Mafic granulites of the Ubendian Belt have geochemical signature, trace and REE patterns, similar to that of the lower continental crustal rocks. A SHRIMP U-Pb single zircon date at 1977±40 Ma indicates that these rocks belong to the Paleoproterozoic Ubendian orogenic cycle, which was followed by the Mesoproterozoic tectonic disturbance that contributed to their exhumation. Orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, garnet, hornblende, plagioclase and quartz is a frequent mineral assemblage for the mafic granulites of the Ubendian Belt, and garnet frequently form corona between plagioclase and clinopyroxene. Geothermobarometric calculations have revealed the equilibration of these rocks at a temperature range between 650 and …

Anthropogenic Disturbance On The Vegetation In Makurunge Woodland, Bagamoyo District, Tanzania, C. Mligo, C. Mligo
Tanzania Journal of Science
Makurunge woodland is part of the major vegetation component covering coastal forest landscape in Tanzania that has been severely affected by anthropogenic disturbance. The present study determined the effects of anthropogenic disturbance on biomass, diversity, plant communities and plant species distribution pattern using nested sample plots systematically established along transects. Six major vegetation communities with different biomass were found. Plant species diversity ranged from 2.5 to 3.3 and was high in scrub forests, riverine and thicketed habitats, although the difference among these habitats was not significant (P>0.05). About 61-90% of the woodland was affected and this influenced the plant …

Evaluation Of Single-Step Steam Pyrolysis-Activated Carbons From Lesotho Agro-Forestry Residues, I. Hapazari, V. Ntuli, W. Parawira
Tanzania Journal of Science
Activated carbon has been widely used worldwide as an effective filtration or adsorption material for removing biological and chemical contaminants from drinking water. The potential of producing activated carbon (AC) from local agroforestry residues by single-step steam pyrolysis processes was investigated. The research aims to promote innovative use of local raw materials and relatively low-cost techniques in production of activated carbon. Four varieties of activated carbons from four different agroforestry residues, pine (Pinus contorta) cones (PC), Abies (Abies cilicica) seeds (AS), maple (Acer ginnala) seeds (MS) and peach (Prunus persica) stones (PS), were prepared and evaluated. The ACs were evaluated …
Host-Parasites Relationship For Lake Victoria Clariid Fishes And Their Parasite Fauna, C. J. Mwita
Host-Parasites Relationship For Lake Victoria Clariid Fishes And Their Parasite Fauna, C. J. Mwita
Tanzania Journal of Science
Host-parasite co-evolutionary relationships for the clariid fish species of the Lake Victoria basin and their parasite fauna was inferred by cytochrome b gene and the 18S rDNA using ‘a strict coevolutionary’ constrained tree method, the results of which revealed a phylogenetic incongruence between the fish hosts and their parasite fauna. The present study further indicated that the sympatric association between the clariid hosts and non-clariid fishes in Lake Victoria makes it possible for the parasites to switch from one host to another and hence the large number of shared parasites observed. The specificity of some of the parasites, e.g. Diplostomum …

Study On The Assessment Of Seafarers' Fatigue, Huanxin. Wang
World Maritime University Dissertations
Global concern about the issue of fatigue at sea is widely evident across the shipping industry. Fatigue-induced human errors have been identified as major contributing factors in most maritime accidents. This paper attempts to explore an approach to evaluate the degree of seafarers’ fatigue and to propose some suggestions on fatigue prevention and management. According to the definition given by the IMO, Fatigue is a state of feeling tired, weary, or sleepy that results from prolonged mental or physical work, extended periods of anxiety, exposure to harsh environments, or loss of sleep. The effects of fatigue are impaired performance and …
Landsat Remote Sensing Data As An Alternative Approach For Geological Mapping In Tanzania: A Case Study In The Rungwe Volcanic Province, South-Western Tanzania, E. E. Mshiu
Tanzania Journal of Science
Rungwe Volcanic Province (RVP) is mostly covered by extrusive rocks that overlain the Precambrian basement. The use of Landsat data in this area has revealed the need of effective use of these data in geological mapping programs in Tanzania. Landsat band ratios 5/1, 3/7, 5/7 and 5/4 as well as R: G: B composite images 7:4:1, 7:5:4, 1/3:5/7:3/5 and 4/5:6/7:4/6 played an important role in identifying different rock types in the study area. Ratio images managed clearly to distinguish between mafic and felsic rocks whereby two lithological blocks were identified, Block 1 covers a combination of intrusive and metamorphic rocks …
