Demographics, Self-Efficacy, And Engagement Of First-Generation Students Enrolled In Online Community College Classes In Arkansas, James Christopher Boyett
Demographics, Self-Efficacy, And Engagement Of First-Generation Students Enrolled In Online Community College Classes In Arkansas, James Christopher Boyett
Student Theses and Dissertations
Students whose parents did not attend college, known as "first generation students," have been studied extensively. Meanwhile, many researchers have examined students taking online courses. However, little has been done to focus on the intersection of these two fields of research - first generation students who take online courses. This study of students enrolled in Arkansas community college online courses focused on the following research questions: (1) What percentage of community college general education online students are first generation (FG) students? (2) How does the demographic background of FG online students compare to non-first generation (NFG) online students? (3) How …

Theatre Of The Arts: Caribbean Intertextuality And The Muse Of Place, Lara B. Cahill-Booth
Theatre Of The Arts: Caribbean Intertextuality And The Muse Of Place, Lara B. Cahill-Booth
Open Access Dissertations
Theatre of the Arts: Caribbean Intertextuality and the Muse of Place is a literary geography that explores how specific environments shape imaginative interventions into history and language. I begin by examining the unity of Derek Walcott's vision of the sea, tracing its ties to oral history, literary canon, and personal reveries of emplacement in Omeros and other epic-minded poems. I follow the sea to its continental origins, examining the Guyanas, an Amazonian bioregion on the borderlands of Guyana, Brazil, and Venezuela, as a place imaginatively remapped by twentieth-century novelists Alejo Carpentier, Wilson Harris, Mario de Andrade, and Pauline Melville. I …

Costume Designing For Theatre Of The Absurd - Come And Go, Footfalls, And The Dumb Waiter., Leslie Rose Epling
Undergraduate Honors Theses
In October of 2010, ETSU staged three one-act plays in the Theatre of the Absurd genre--Come and Go and Footfalls by Samuel Beckett and The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter. This thesis gives a brief overview of Theatre of the Absurd and how Beckett and Pinter helped to shape and define the genre. It also gives an analysis of these three plays from the perspective of the costume designer.

Where The Dead Remain, Bryan Camp
Where The Dead Remain, Bryan Camp
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Where the Dead Remain is a murder mystery set in a Post-Katrina New Orleans where the gods, magic and monsters of various world mythologies actually exist. The story follows a week in the life of Jude Duboisson, a once magician who is struggling with the loss of his magic and the life he had known in the wake of the storm, as he is pulled out of his torpor and into the affairs of the mighty once again. He is tasked with discovering who murdered Dodge Renaud, the fortune god of New Orleans. What he discovers, though, are some surprising …

In The Middle, Nicole Pugh
In The Middle, Nicole Pugh
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
A woman just getting settled in New Orleans with her fiancé is uprooted by Hurricane Katrina. She spends the two months after the hurricane in various parts of Louisiana trying to pick up the pieces of her uprooted reality. Along the way, she encounters ordinary people who act as inspirations and is also reminded of her deceased Chinese grandmother, whom she was care-giver to before she died and whose stories about life in China and the US parallel the woman´s own life during the post-Katrina months of vulnerability and change.
