Each fiscal year, as academic librarians throughout the United States prepare materials budgets, a national “groan” ensues. Regardless of their format (i.e. print or digital), serial subscription costs are escalating, in the process impacting the role of the library in advancing scholarly communication . This paper examines some of the economic issues concerning open-access (OA) journal publishing. The importance of quantitative literacy is suggested for librarians and academics seeking a better understanding of alternatives to traditional journal subscription models and to anyone considering ventures into OA publishing. Several academic institutions are searching for ways to help students develop their quantitative reasoning abilities and become more adept at higher-level tasks that involve quantitative skills. In this note we study the particular way Pomona College has framed this issue within its own context and what it plans to do about it. To this end we describe our efforts as members of a campus-wide committee that was assigned the duty of investigating the feasibility of founding a quantitative studies center on our campus. Analisis konjoin biasa digunakan untuk mengukur tingkat kesukaan responden terhadap suatu produk. Pada penelitian ini, analisis konjoin diterapkan untuk mengidentifikasi penilaian dosen terhadap rencana pembukaan Program Studi Statistika di FMIPA Unsyiah. Atribut-atribut yang dilibatkan adalah dosen, peminat, pengguna lulusan, ruang kuliah, dan laboratorium. Responden terdiri atas 40 orang dosen FMIPA Unsyiah. Pengambilan contoh menggunakan penarikan contoh acak berlapis. Jurusan Matematika, fisika, kimia, dan biologi adalah masing-masing lapisan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) menguji psikologi kognitif sebagai dasar pengembangan tes kemampuan dasar (TKD) membaca sains; (2) menentukan karakteristik TKD membaca sains yang dikembangkan; (3) menentukan kriteria penilaian dan cara menginterpretasikan hasil TKD. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa SD kelas 5 di kota Ungaran, kabupaten Semarang. This article reports on the results of an assessment of an introductory rural sociology course offered at two land-grant universities, which are very different in size. These institutions are North Carolina A&T State University and The Ohio State University. The authors use similar assessment tools, including an embedded pre and post test of knowledge gained, students’ written comments to open-ended questions administered at the end of term about the quality of the class and the instructors, and the traditional, standardized Student Evaluation of Instruction, an instrument used across many universities. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan besarnya estimasi kesalahan pengukuran perangkat soal Ujicoba Ujian Nasional mata pelajaran Biologi SMA. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini didasarkan pada respons siswa peserta tes ujicoba di kabupaten Bantul tahun pelajaran 2007/2008. Sumber data berupa lembar jawaban siswa yang diambil dengan teknik stratified proportional random sampling sebanyak 842 respons siswa dari 9 SMA negeri. This paper provides a summary of the current scientific understanding of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on the natural and anthropogenic drivers of changes in global climate. It presents an overview of observed changes in the climate system and their relationships with physical processes as well as an overview of projections for future climate changes. A summary of observed climate changes in Slovenia in the last decades is given and future projections are discussed. The global climate has changed notably since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gasses (GHG) have increased dramatically followed by an increase in global average temperature. In order to avoid negative potential outcomes of global warming, countries have adopted the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that has so far been ratified by 192 countries. In 1997 the Kyoto Protocol, a binding GHG reduction plan, was adopted and entered into force in 2005. This dissertation discusses ocean acidification as an emerging priority in international climate protection processes within the UNFCCC and the IMO. It provides discussion in an area where there is currently a gap between ocean acidification science and corresponding action in law and policy processes. A 21-year-old man had progressive weakness and numbness of bilateral lower extremities and sphincter dysfunction after a traffic accident. The image and electrodiagnostic study showed no significant abnormal findings. Conversion paraplegia was suspected due to unusual clinical presentation, which cannot be explained by neuropathologic lesions. After intensive rehabilitation, patient's functional performance improved significantly and he could walk independently without device. But later, a fibrous dysplasia lesion was found at left sphenoid greater wing. He received an operation to remove it. The relationship between his benign brain tumor and conversion disorder is unknown, but the tumor that compressed temporal lobe might …

Background: Retroperitoneal liposarcoma is one of the common soft-tissue tumors that occur in the retroperitoneal cavity. It often invades adjacent structures and causes symptoms of gastrointestinal or urinary tract infection. However, it rarely causes sciatica by compressing the lumbosarcral nerve roots. A recent reviewarticle of the domestic literatures revealed that this is the first casereport on sciatica caused by retroperitoneal liposarcoma.Case: We present the case of a 29-year-old man who complained of left knee pain for half a year. Congenitally deaf persons don't have the ability to communicate verbally due to profound hearing impairment. Thus, they rely on words and sign language to communicate with others. Physicians tend to pay less attention to people who can't communicate verbally. We report the case of a 45-year-old congenitally deaf man who developed a left frontotemporal brain tumor. He was right-handed. As a result of the tumor, he lost both the ability to form words and the sign language he had relied upon to communicate with others.
