Managing Perplexing Congregations: The Case Of Chinese Protestant Church In North America, Siu-Hang P. Chan
Managing Perplexing Congregations: The Case Of Chinese Protestant Church In North America, Siu-Hang P. Chan
Student Scholarship
How religious congregations adapt to change determines whether they will continue to thrive (Ammerman, 1997). Chinese immigrant religious organizations in America face a built-in clash between the generations of Overseas-Born Chinese (OBC) and American-Born Chinese (ABC) that is most visible in their religious congregations (Ling & Cheuk, 1999). This study identifies how Chinese congregations develop interpretive schemes (Bartunek, 1984) that help bridge the generational transition and lead to successful adaptation or its hindrance.

Developing A Program For Every Member To Be A Missionary In The Local Church, Joey Todd Anthony
Developing A Program For Every Member To Be A Missionary In The Local Church, Joey Todd Anthony
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The program was created by researching the methods of training used by the International Mission Board and the North America Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention as well as Wycliffe Bible Translators. Books and articles relating to missions and missionaries were researched. The Scriptures were applied to the theoretical basis for the program. The program, "Every Member a Missionary;' was created to train the local church member to begin to think and act like a missionary. The program equips the church member to learn how to meet the lost people where they are and point them to Jesus.
The State Of The Unions—Denominations In The 21st Century, Robert Wenz
The State Of The Unions—Denominations In The 21st Century, Robert Wenz
Journal of the American Society for Church Growth
The denominational landscape in America is changing. It is no longer a landscape of blossoming and blooming. It is rather a landscape marked by withering, fallen petals, and some new and different shoots budding. Some denominations are merging or consolidating districts/regions/presbyteries, effectively reducing regional overhead. This serves to reduce the burden on churches to support both a national organization and a regional association. Increasingly, denominations are questioning the relative value and cutting their publications ministries.

Contemporary Church Planting, Elmer Towns
Contemporary Church Planting, Elmer Towns
Journal of the American Society for Church Growth
The challenge of church planting has never been greater. There has always been the challenge of reaching people. But today’s challenges are different than ever before, and more extreme than ever before. Today’s challenges are exploding population, urbanization, technological innovations, expanding travel, complex international commercialization, the growing threat of terrorism, and growing secularization in First World or civilized countries; and in the Third World countries growing mysticism, spiritism, and demonism. Other challenges involve the influence of postmodernity, the influence of globalization through the United Nations, the collapse of church cooperation, i.e., World Council of Churches, Baptist World Alliance, etc.; the …

Exploring A New Paradigm For Evangelism In The Emerging Culture, Michael Mcnichols
Exploring A New Paradigm For Evangelism In The Emerging Culture, Michael Mcnichols
Doctor of Ministry
It is my claim that evangelism has become focused on the proclamation of a message that is presumed to be an accurate expression of the biblical concept of gospel. Evangelism within the evangelical community, perceived primarily as proclamation, has become a specialized function of the church. It is too often separated not only from the normative experience of the average Christian but also from the idea of discipleship, or spiritual formation. There are possible solutions to this problem, such as more training, increased efforts at city-wide crusades, more seeker-oriented services, continuation of church planting, a stronger focus on those "gifted" …

Characteristics Of A Healthy Church From The Seven Churches Of Asia That Can Apply To Yohan Tokyo Christ Church, Jong Yoon Kim
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this project is to understand the characteristics of a healthy church from the seven churches of Asia, using Revelation 2-3 and to apply those characteristics to Yohan Tokyo Christ Church. The project carefully examines the characteristics of a healthy church from Jesus Christ’s commendations and condemnations to the seven churches of Asia. It also analyzes and evaluates current situation of the Yohan Tokyo Christ Church based on surveys. Five practical strategies for spiritual health development of the Yohan Tokyo Christ Church are offered. Those strategies will help the spiritual health of the Yohan Tokyo Christ Church and …
