Computational Modeling & Simulation Engineering Faculty Publications
Interoperability across Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and Command and Control (C2) systems continues to be a significant problem for today's warfighters. M&S is well-established in military training, but it can be a valuable asset for planning and mission rehearsal if M&S and C2 systems were able to exchange information, plans, and orders more effectively. To better support the warfighter with M&S based capabilities, an open standards-based framework is needed that establishes operational and technical coherence between C2 and M&S systems.

Capital Requirements In United States Corporation Law, Richard A. Booth
Capital Requirements In United States Corporation Law, Richard A. Booth
Working Paper Series
This paper focuses on corporation law in the United States as it relates to capital contributions and capital maintenance. In other words, the paper addresses the provisions of corporation law relating to (1) the obligation of investors to contribute to the corporation a specified amount of capital and (2) the obligation of the corporation to maintain a specified amount of capital (and not to pay it back to the stockholders in the form of dividends or payments to repurchase or redeem shares). Traditionally, the amount of capital that must be contributed to and maintained by a corporation is called the …

Aesop's Fables And George Eliot's Brother And Sisters Sonnets, Margaret Wolfit
The George Eliot Review Online, ISSN: 2831-5375
It is always exciting to discover something new and to come upon it unexpectedly. That was my happy experience a few years ago. I had decided to try my hand at devising a biographical programme on George Eliot and to attempt to portray her at the end of her life, reminiscing on past events. I wanted to absorb as much as I could about her, starting with her early days. What were the influences that shaped her life and writing? What books had she read as a child?
She tells us: 'I could not be satisfied with the things around …

Does Shortwave Diathermy Reduce The Intractable Spasticity Of Patients With Spinal Cord Injury?, Hung-Tzu Su, Tien-Wen Chen, Ming-Cheng Weng, Chia-Ling Lee, Mao-Hsiung Huang
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Spasticity is a hallmark of an upper motor neuron disorder and represents the most important impairments for individuals who care for patients with central nervous system disease. It may have an adverse effect on rehabilitation training. Shortwave diathermy is a modality that produces deep heat. It is usually used to relieve pain and stiffness, promote wound healing and relieve deep muscle spasm. In the present case, we show a 52-year-old male patient with spinal cord injury who has severe spastic hypertonia. He is disabling in motor and daily living. We have tried in vain with various physical therapy and medications. He …

Gait Deviations In Patients With Early Osteoarthritis Of The Knee, Yin-Chou Lin, Chih-Kuan Chen, Ngok-Kiu Chu, Jung-Feng Chang, Yiu-Chung Liu, Simon Fuk-Tan Tang
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
We design a case control study to evaluate the gait deviations of patients with early osteoarthritis(OA) of the knee, which are subtle and difficult to observe clinically. Twenty-six patients with symptomatic OA were recruited from the outpatient department. The control group consisted of 20 normal subjects who were matched for age, body weight, and body height. Both the patient and control groups were subjected to a similar protocol of gait analysis with comfortable speed. The peak value of angular displacement of pelvic tilt up, pelvic tilt down, knee valgus, ankle dorsifexion, and ankle rotation were significantly lower (p<0.05) in the …

Femoral Neuropathy After Reconstruction Of A Defect Due To Buccal Cancer Excision Using A Thigh Flap: A Casereport, I-Ning Tang, Jo-Tong Chen, Chang-Zern Hong
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
A case of femoral neuropathy as a complication of flap excision for reconstruction of a defect due to buccal cancer excision is presented. A 51-year-old man developed numbness over his left anteromedial thigh and medial lower leg, left quadriceps weakness, and absence of left knee jerk after a flap was obtained from his anterolateral thigh. Electromyographic examination revealed evidence of denervation in the left quadriceps. A nerve conduction study showed prolonged latency, reduced amplitude of the compound muscle action potential, decreased velocity in the left femoral nerve and prolonged latency, reduced amplitude of the sensory nerve action potential, and decreased …

The Analysis Of Core Competence For Chinese Oil Shipping Company, Binmeng. Mo
World Maritime University Dissertations
During the past decade, China’s crude oil import has risen sharply, which demands the immediately matching shipping capacity of the domestic oil shipping companies. Therefore, how to steer the Chinese oil shipping enterprises towards a promising development is a very big problem facing the Chinese entrepreneurs. This paper has tried to provide some practical suggestion to improve Chinese oil shipping companies’ core competence based on the analysis of Chinese Shipping Tanker Company, which is typical representative for this industry. After having studied the measuring methods of the core competence and the index system building principles, the author constructs a complete …
