Perceived Indicators Of Support Leading To The Successful Attainment Of The National Board For Professional Teaching Standards Certification., Richard W. Bales
Perceived Indicators Of Support Leading To The Successful Attainment Of The National Board For Professional Teaching Standards Certification., Richard W. Bales
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There has been limited research completed to identify supports or supporting behaviors that assisted candidates while they were completing the national board certification process. Identifying support factors that assisted national board certified teachers to the successful completion of the process was the primary focus of this study.
A qualitative research method was used to interview national board certified teachers, their teaching colleagues, and their administrators. Questions were posed from the interview guides developed for each of the three targeted groups. Information derived from the interviews focused on the perceived supports that lead to the successful attainment of the national board …

Exploring The Bermuda Triangle: Review Of Gender, Societal, Team And Individual Leadership Theories , Andrea J. Gage, Shelly Mumma, Susan Fritz
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications
The relationship between an individual’s comprehension of his or her role in society, the gender expectations of society, and how these thoughts and stereotypes influence an individual’s behavior in particular settings seem to be separate, yet interrelated. It is for this reason that an analysis of four main theories of gender and leadership must be reviewed for contrasts and comparisons. This paper reviews and analyzes the research literature on Social Role Theory, Implicit Theory, Attribution Theory, and Leader Emergence Theory. Further it draws conclusions and comparisons that will provide recommendations and implications for future research and practice.

Civil-Military Change In China: Elites, Institutes, And Ideas After The 16th Party Congress, Andrew Scobell Dr., Larry M. Wortzel Dr.
Books, Monographs & Collaborative Studies
In November 2002, the Chinese Communist Party held its 16th Congress and formally initiated a sweeping turnover of senior leaders in both the Party and the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The meeting heralded not merely a new set of personalities in positions of political and military power, but also the emergence of a new generation of leaders. Who are these individuals, and what does their rise mean for the future of China and its military? China matters to the United States because of its size, its spectacular patterns of growth, its profound problems linked to rapid growth, and its military …

Toward The Civil Society: Finding Harmony Between Havel’S Vision And Learning-Organization Theory, Patsy Palmer
Toward The Civil Society: Finding Harmony Between Havel’S Vision And Learning-Organization Theory, Patsy Palmer
Peace and Conflict Studies
This theoretical paper derives inspiration from former Czech President Vaclav Havel and lessons from “learning organizations” to guide government executives in helping develop shared meaning among constituents, interest groups and public employees. Such shared meaning is seen as a framework for policy decisions and implementation. American civil society, like learning organizations, is understood as broadly interdependent and continuously changing, with conflict both latent and overt. Leadership is defined in contrast to management and administration; government leadership is compared and contrasted with learningorganization leadership. Strengths, weaknesses and political costs of various approaches are considered. It is argued that successful publicsector leaders …
The Relationship Between Leadership Styles And Labour Disputes In British Columbia's Public Schools, Yanping Wang Edd
The Relationship Between Leadership Styles And Labour Disputes In British Columbia's Public Schools, Yanping Wang Edd
Dissertations
For the last decade, adversarial relationships between teachers' associations and district administrators in the British Columbia public school system have been commonplace, frequently resulting in formal grievances and arbitration. Since dealing with these issues imposes enormous costs on both teachers' unions and school boards, this study used hierarchical regression analysis to explain why some schools have fewer grievances filed than other schools in the province. Specifically, this study used data gathered from 160 principals in the British Columbia public school system to examine the extent to which school demographics and principal leadership style helped explain variation in the rate of …
The United States And Iraq's Shi'ite Clergy: Partners Or Adversaries?, W. Andrew Terrill Dr.
The United States And Iraq's Shi'ite Clergy: Partners Or Adversaries?, W. Andrew Terrill Dr.
Books, Monographs & Collaborative Studies
The author addressed the critical need to gain the cooperation or at least the passive tolerance of the Shi'ite clerics and community. Such an effort could become more challenging as time goes on, and one of the recurring themes of this monograph is the declining patience of the Shi'ite clergy with the U.S. presence. By describing the attitudes, actions, and beliefs of major Shi'ite clerics, the author underscores a set of worldviews that are profoundly different from those of the U.S. authorities currently in Iraq and Washington. Some key Shi'ite clerics are deeply suspicious of the United States, exemplified by …

College students in 1961 utilized college football to make tangible linkages not only to the civil rights movement taking place in the South but also their own restrictions on campus, shaping a growing awareness of the broader of the restrains of American Cold War liberalism.
Tracking The Emerging Church, Eddie Gibbs, Ryan Bolger Fuller Theological Seminary
Tracking The Emerging Church, Eddie Gibbs, Ryan Bolger Fuller Theological Seminary
Journal of the American Society for Church Growth
While traditional denominations struggle to maintain their blanket coverage of the nation, there are discernable movements emerging, as part of the decentralization process, in the major population centers around the world – movements that are typically decentralized, spontaneous and grass-roots. They are particularly strong among the under 35s generations, although by no means confined to them. Churches identified with these new movements go by a number of names: “churches in emerging culture, “ “alternative worship,” “postmodern church,” “simple church,” “liquid church,” “organic church,” or simply “the emerging church.” Personally, we prefer the last mentioned, as, in our view, the church …

The authors discuss the intersection of democracy and community action by examining the sociology of groups and the social psychology of leaders and followers. They also examine the role of, and choices presented to, an attorney working in a community and for a local community group.

African American New Teachers’ Critical Stories: Learning To Teach, Becoming Certified, And Teaching, Lichelle Beeler, Christina Hayes, Felicia Lewis, Alicia Russell, Glenda Moss
Mid-Western Educational Researcher
Four African American teacher-researcher-participants contributed to this self-reflective autobiographical, narrative analysis of learning to teach, becoming certified, and teaching. Each participant reflected on her educational stories of experience, as all four were educated on White university campuses and transitioned to teaching in predominantly African American teaching settings. The primary question this paper addresses is: What can be learned from African American teachers' stories of experience about recruiting and maintaining African Americans in the field of education?

A Narrative Exploration Of Personal Factors And Organizational Contexts In The Development Of Local Leadership, Kristine Leigh Chadwick
Open Access Dissertations
This dissertation analyzed the factors contributing to the development of leadership in voluntary community organizations, created as part of a community-level substance abuse prevention project known as the Partnership, and explored the role of intermediary support organizations in nurturing the development of community leaders. Through interviews with team leaders and staff from the support organization, and analysis of program records, this research examined the empowering of individuals and the development of empowering organizations. The development of local leaders in neighborhood, grassroots, or other voluntary organizations has received little attention until recently. Previous studies of empowerment of local leaders have noted …

The conceptual and empirical links between authentic leadership and follower attitudes, behaviors, and performance outcomes have not been fully developed. Although we have a number of articles developing the theory of authentic leadership and testing propositions that will appear in a forthcoming special issue of The Leadership Quarterly (Vol. 16, Issue 3, 2005), the focus of this article is to provide some of the initial foundation work for the broader theoretical framework of how authentic leaders influence follower attitudes, behaviors, and performance. Here, we draw from positive organizational behavior, trust, hope, emotion, identification, and identity theories to describe the processes …
