The historical common elements in Tanzania and African American culture serve as links that uncover the connection between these two groups of people through time and space in this thesis. Elements of Tanzanian nationalism in African American black cultural nationalism are links that attest to the significance of this African! African American twentieth century relationship. A most obvious link between Tanzania and African Americans is language. The appearance of Kiswahili as a non-ethnic African language allowed this language to be instrumental in facilitating nationalism in Tanzania, and later surfacing in the African American community as its' unofficial adopted African language. …

Drums have been a vital part of African traditions and celebrations for thousands of years. They play an immense role in Africa's rich oral history. Through the drum, the joys sorrows and every day passages of an entire people are documented, celebrated and mourned. The Djembe is a Guinean drum that is played throughout Africa. The Djembe along with other instruments are used to play Drum-dance songs during festivals and seasonal celebrations. Unfortunately, women are seldom included in these events. Drawing on research from primary and secondary sources, in four major sections, this paper examines the evolution of development as a concept, the meaning of development according to commonplace western institutional perception, the meaning of development according to local perceptions of Ghanaian university students, and a critique of the contrast through the overlaps and gaps in definition and language. In conclusion, this study has shown that imperialism is playing a noticeable role in the perception of the meaning of development including the indications of and the path to such a state for Ghanaian society.

This paper serves as an investigation into the Ghanaian society and culture in efforts to understand and explain notions of homelessness. Using my previous research on family homelessness in San Francisco, California as a general frame work and example of American homelessness, this paper juxtaposes the American concept of homelessness with the Ghanaian concept. Information gathered from institutions, people and professionals is used to extract and explain some important themes that help us to better understanding the problem of homelessness in Ghana: Its meanings forms and treatment.
