Recruitment, Preparation, And Retention Of Catholic High School Religion Teachers, Timothy J. Cook
Recruitment, Preparation, And Retention Of Catholic High School Religion Teachers, Timothy J. Cook
Journal of Catholic Education
In September 2000, this journal announced an important national study, funded by grants from the Lilly Endowment, the Knights of Columbus McGivney Fund, and the Chief Administrators of Catholic Education, on the impending shortage of religion teachers in Catholic high schools. This article reports the findings of that study in three important areas: recruitment, preparation, and retention. The study summarizes the results of surveys to nearly 200 Catholic high schools and 1000 religion teachers throughout the United States. Extensive recommendations are offered for each area studied, with a view to securing a stable future pool of highly qualified high school …

Factors For Successful Adolescent Ministry In The Local Church Today, Steve Vandegriff
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this project is to wade through a number of ideologies and practices that pose as successful in the venue of local church ministry and identify those factors that truly reflect success. This will be based upon surveying several prominent veteran youth workers. The identified factors will be a reflection of the larger picture of youth ministry. There will also be some prognoses as to where youth ministry is headed in the near future.

Women And Their Mothers: Rejecting And Reclaiming The Tradition Of The Saints, Marie Anne Mayeski
Women And Their Mothers: Rejecting And Reclaiming The Tradition Of The Saints, Marie Anne Mayeski
Theological Studies Faculty Works
Without doubt, many women have experienced great difficulty when attempting to reclaim the stories of their spiritual mothers, the saints. However, Mayeski believes that the reclaiming of the stories of female ancestors is both possible and necessary, and she finds in the work of recent feminist scholars suggestions and methods that can prove helpful in the spiritual journey.

Doing Theology In The City, Paul Fitzgerald
Doing Theology In The City, Paul Fitzgerald
Special Topics, General
The task of theology is often a lonely endeavor. The hush of the library or the archives, the still of the chapel, and the quiet discipline of one's desk are places where theological research and writing unfold, most often in solitary concentration. The classroom on the protected college campus or seminary, the academic conference in large hotels, and even the cherished conversation in the homes of colleagues do open the theologian to other minds and hearts so that theories and insights may be tested in dialogue. However, these exchanges are often located in affluent social contexts which cannot reveal the …

The Impact Of Intentional Learning Experiences For Personal Spiritual Formation On Seminary Students, Carol M. Tasker
The Impact Of Intentional Learning Experiences For Personal Spiritual Formation On Seminary Students, Carol M. Tasker
Dissertations
Problem. Many seminary students describe their time in seminary as a spiritual desert. Most Protestant seminaries do not provide spiritual formation classes for their students, thinking that such measures are unnecessary or inappropriate for theological education, or assuming that the church is the place for spiritual formation to take place. Nevertheless, pastors are expected to be spiritual leaders, and the pastor’s spirituality is ranked by laity as the highest priority needed by seminary graduates for effective church ministry. A literature survey of theological education shows that, in the last 150 years, students have consistently recognized their need for help …
