Scintillation Model For A Satellite Communication Link At Large Zenith Angles, Larry C. Andrews, Ronald L. Phillips, Cynthia Young Hopen

A scintillation model is developed for uplink-downlink optical communication channels applicable in moderate to strong fluctuation conditions that may arise under large zenith angles between transmitter and receiver. The model developed here is an extension of a recently published theory that treats irradiance fluctuations along a horizontal path as a modulation of small-scale scintillation by large-scale scintillation. For a downlink path the scintillation index is modeled like that of an infinite plane wave, and for an uplink path we consider a spherical wave model. The book of Revelation is notorious for an almost chaotic diversity of interpretations, no doubt as a result of the surprising symbols like those found in other apocalypses. The book is saturated in apocalyptic symbolism, and many of the characters are not so much named as caricatured. Revelation 12, a central chapter both in location and theology, contains characters whose importance and background have been thoroughly investigated: (1) the celestial woman, (2) the dragon (Satan), and (3) the Messianic child. John throws an unexpected name into this mix of characters--the angel Michael.

The purpose of this dissertation is to present the effectiveness of a pastoral evangelism methodology. John Albert Broadus, Alfred Elijah Dickinson, and John William Jones exemplified this methodology while ministering in the camps of the Army of Northern Virginia.

Chapter one explains the research parameters and introduces the historical epoch of Broadus's, Dickinson's, and Jones's army camp ministry. The revival occurred at the end of a transitional period in American revivalism. The chapter surveys sociological, theological, and denominational events in the period 1840-1861 which influenced the men's formation in ministry. The Air Force has instituted Barrier Reef to protect its networks. The Air Force medical community operates network connections that are incompatible with Barrier Reef. To overcome this problem, OASD(HA) directed the Tri-Service Management Program Office (TIMPO) to develop an architecture that protects all military health systems and allows them to link with all three services and outside partners. This research studied the underlying networking issues and formed a framework based on data from network experts from the Air Force's medical centers and their base network organizations. Information system (IS) incidents are on the rise. With low manning and undertrained information security specialists it is difficult for organizations to stop IS incidents from occurring. Once an incident has occurred it is the IS manager's responsibility to ensure that a full and accurate damage assessment has been accomplished. However, most IS managers lack the necessary tools to assess the damage from an incident. This exploratory thesis developed an IS incident damage assessment model (DAM) that can be part of the IS manager's tool kit. The authors address what they—and many others—perceived to be a decline in military professionalism in the Army officer corps. The authors first describe the ethical, technical, and political components of military professionalism and then address the causes for the decline. They conclude by proposing a set of principles which, if adhered to, will reinvigorate the vision of the officer corps and motivate the corps to selfless service.

When analyzing machine/converter systems it is convenient to represent the stator variables in physical (abc) form. It has recently been shown that a physical-variable voltage-behind-reactance form of the synchronous machine model can be derived which is numerically more efficient than existing physical-variable models. In this research, a new voltage-behind-reactance model is derived which incorporates the effects of magnetic saturation. This model is shown to have the same numerical efficiency of the unsaturated model and is readily implemented in either circuit-based or differential-equation based simulation languages. An example system is provided which demonstrates the accuracy and efficiency of this model for …

Relatively few scholars have investigated racial representations in modern American drama. Even fewer scholars have undertaken to analyze depictions of whiteness in American letters, although “white studies” is slowly assuming legitimacy in the academy in the 1990s. “Racial Encounters in the American Theatre” therefore attempts to bridge this gap in literary and critical studies by examining the black portraiture of Eugene O'Neill and the white portraiture of August Wilson. The work of both playwrights attests to their deep and consistent involvement with their Racial Other, who resurfaces in play after play.
