Ventilation Rates For Carassius Auratus During Changes In Dissolved Oxygen, Collin Nolan
Ventilation Rates For Carassius Auratus During Changes In Dissolved Oxygen, Collin Nolan
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
This experiment was designed to determine whether dissolved oxygen concentrations would influence the ventilation rate of goldfish, Carassius auratus. Ventilation rate can be determined by counting opercular movements. Opercular movements of the same five goldfish were counted at three different levels of dissolved oxygen to determine whether there were differences in ventilation rates. Average ventilation rates were established for each of the three levels of dissolved oxygen and compared statistically. There were significant differences in the ventilation rates averages at each of the three levels. Carassius auratus will exhibit changes in ventilation rates when dissolved oxygen levels change.

Subregional Planning In The San Francisco Bay Area: Tri-Valley Subregional Planning Strategy, Hing Wong
Subregional Planning In The San Francisco Bay Area: Tri-Valley Subregional Planning Strategy, Hing Wong
Master's Projects
Many people in the San Francisco Bay Area have noticed that their quality of life has deteriorated in recent years. Citizens are becoming increasingly aware of problems such as traffic congestion; cost and supply of housing; loss of open space and agricultural land; environmental concerns; deterioration of infrastructure; and economic uncertainties.
All of these problems have significant effects on the physical and social welfare of our communities. Many of them are interrelated, and the result of haphazard regional growth patterns. The real dilemma is not that these conditions exist, but that they are largely unresolvable by our present structure of …
Revitalizing Environmental Federalism, Daniel C. Esty
Revitalizing Environmental Federalism, Daniel C. Esty
Michigan Law Review
Politicians from Speaker Newt Gingrich to President Bill Clinton, cheered on by academics such as Richard Revesz, are eagerly seeking to return authority over environmental regulation to the states. In the European Union, localist opponents of environmental decisionmaking in Brussels rally under the banner of "subsidiarity." And in debates over international trade liberalization, demands abound for the protection of "national sovereignty" in environmental regulation. All of these efforts presume that a decentralized approach to environmental policy will yield better results than more centralized programs. This presumption is misguided. While the character of some environmental concerns warrants a preference for local …
