This thesis analyzes how conservative opposition grew and the effects of the Great Depression on Harry Byrd’s political views. The New Deal did not end the Great Depression, but it did usher in a new era in American governmental philosophy. Harry Byrd opposed the growing activism of the federal government and the New Deal’s approach to combating the depression. He maintained that government should be limited and economical. Although other modified their economic and political philosophies during the New Deal, Byrd never disowned the conservative principles that he formed early in life. The purpose of this qualitative study was to learn more about leadership from the perspectives, norms, and values of a selected group of African American women leaders. I sought to develop a more inclusive view of the realities of leadership, and a better understanding of the impact of the interlocking status of race, gender, and social class on the practice, pursuit, and perceptions of leadership by these women.
This study is grounded in a Black women's standpoint, and places Black women's experiences at the center of analysis. In answer to the question "How do we know the world?," the standpoint …

This paper is the final product of a research oriented project in which I studied leadership within the federal judicial system, specifically the Supreme Court of the United States. This project was an in depth study of the amount, style, and effect of Leadership in the Judicial branch. Through this study I hoped to explore a major component of government which has somehow been ignored when studying leadership at the national level.

I addressed the problem that leadership theory is lacking in regard to how women lead high schools. My primary purpose was to contribute to the limited literature that exists regarding the leadership practices of women who are high school principals. I explored the notion of a female culture of school leadership and situated that culture among quintessential theory dictated by organizational research. I conducted this study in two phases. In Phase One I reported the demographics of 44 female high school principals in Louisiana along with their self-reported values on 32 leadership characteristics. This article uses an informal case model approach to discuss the importance of understanding the role of consensus in the resolution of interracial conflict. As well, the article offers an elaboration on the classic mediation model as a way of enriching the technology of intervention.
