This study investigated the characteristic of chaos theory called sensitive dependence on initial conditions or butterfly effect in schools and school systems. The purpose of the study was to develop insight into school systems by determining if categories or factors of behaviors or decisions have been observed in school systems which are sensitive to initial conditions and are therefore likely to produce exponential effects. A dramatic expansion of distance learning through the use of interactive television (ITV) is allowing colleges and universities to offer students potentially unlimited access to educational and training opportunities. While the expanding information age beckons us to consider mechanisms for using communication technologies for the benefit of meeting the needs of learners in a variety of locations, the question may be raised--Is ITV an effective medium of instruction? This study examined the effectiveness of using an interactive television system to broadcast developmental algebra classes at East Tennessee State University. Remark: Brown V. Board: Revisited, Michael A. Middleton Oct 1995

Remark: Brown V. Board: Revisited, Michael A. Middleton

Faculty Publications

[T]he Negro needs neither segregated schools nor mixed schools. What he needs is Education. What he must remember is that there is no magic, either in mixed schools or in segregated schools. A mixed school with poor and unsympathetic teachers, with hostile public opinion, and no teaching of truth concerning black folk, is bad. A segregated school with ignorant placeholders, inadequate equipment, poor salaries, and wretched housing, is equally bad. Other things being equal, the mixed school is the broader, more natural basis for the education of all youth. It gives wider contacts; it inspires greater self-confidence; and suppresses the …

The Core Values Of Vincentian Education, Louise Sullivan D.C.

Vincentian Heritage Journal

The educational endeavors of Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac, often overshadowed by their other works, were an integral part of their service to the poor. Vincent de Paul is sometimes seen as an anti-intellectual, but he made sure he received the best theological education possible. He was also a successful teacher. He taught school during his student days at Toulouse and while he was pastor of Clichy, and he was primarily engaged with the Gondi family as a tutor for the eldest son. He knew that the religious neglect of the poor and the clergy’s ignorance were inextricably …
