Prolonging Life, George P. Fletcher Jun 1967

Prolonging Life, George P. Fletcher

Washington Law Review

A physician decides not to prolong the life of a terminal patient. What are the legal consequences? Is it murder, akin to a gunman's pulling the trigger? Or is the law more sensitive? Professor Fletcher proposes that a decision to interrupt life-sustaining therapy, such as that to turn off a mechanical respirator, should be classified as an omission, not an act. He arrives at this conclusion by analyzing the common sense usages of "cause" and "permit." If the decision is an omission then the law must focus on the doctor-patient relationship to define legal consequences, allowing customary standards of the …

Holistic Evangelism As An Approach To Navaho Peyotism, Gary H. Harding Jun 1967

Holistic Evangelism As An Approach To Navaho Peyotism, Gary H. Harding

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Seventh-day Adventist evangelism has attempted to treat the whole man--physically, mentally, spiritually. Because the desired results of evangelism have been less than ideal in many areas of the world, a review of the basic concepts of Seventh-day Adventism (epitomized in the writings of Ellen G. White, whom Seventh-day Adventists consider to have written under inspiration) was made.

This review has tried to clarify the emphasis placed on the necessity of a complete gospel approach to meet the physical, intellectual and social needs of man as well as the religious. Sin is seen to be a loss of the wholeness that …

Southern Baptist Missions In China 1945-1951, Garnett Lee White Jan 1967

Southern Baptist Missions In China 1945-1951, Garnett Lee White

Master's Theses

This thesis developed from a seminar paper on the South China Mission of the Southern Baptist Convention, 1945-1951, prepared for Dr. R. Barry Westin in the tall of 1965. Though the scope of this present study includes Southern Baptist Missions in all of China during the same period, its purpose remains the same. That purpose is to present the course of the evangelical outreach or this large Protestant denomination, and the progress made in establishing an indigenous Christian movement in China before the Communists forced the withdrawal of all missionary personnel.
