The Moderating Role Of Coping Strategies In The Relationship Between Depressive Symptoms And Hypersexuality Among Young Filipino Adults, Kathryn H. Jacob, Voltaire M. Marquez
The Moderating Role Of Coping Strategies In The Relationship Between Depressive Symptoms And Hypersexuality Among Young Filipino Adults, Kathryn H. Jacob, Voltaire M. Marquez
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
Mental health among young adults is receiving increasing attention because of its significant influence on overall well-being, including physical health, interpersonal relationships, and daily functioning. Among the key concerns within this age group are depression and hypersexuality. This study investigated the moderating role of coping strategies in the relationship between depressive symptoms and hypersexuality. We hypothesize that adaptive coping strategies—such as problem- and emotion-focused coping—would attenuate the negative effects of depressive symptoms on hypersexual behavior, whereas avoidant coping would intensify this relationship. To test these assumptions, a cross-sectional explanatory study was conducted involving 407 Filipino young adults aged 18 to …

Misread Before Being Known: Race, Religion, And Institutional Non-Inquiry In Abrogation, Franklin Livingston
Journal of Religion & Film
Institutions often arrive at certainty before they arrive at knowledge. This article names that mechanism institutional non-inquiry — the organizational habit through which visual and cultural assumptions substitute for direct verification, allowing identity classifications to solidify before the subject meaningfully enters the encounter. Unlike prejudice, racialization, or established theories of pre-reflexive social perception, institutional non-inquiry isolates the organizational encounter itself as the specific procedural moment at which collective interpretive habits make inquiry feel unnecessary. Examining Abrogation (2024), a micro-budget American independent feature following Daud Khan, a Brown Pakistani-American infectious disease specialist whose movement through evangelical, civic, and federal institutions repeatedly …

Modelling Malaysian Mortality With Cause-Of-Death: A Compositional Data Approach To Lee-Carter Extension, Saiful Azril Ishak, Norazliani Md Lazam, Shamshimah Shamsuddin, Nurin Haniah Asmuni, Nordiana Rosdi
Malaysian Journal of Computing (MJoC)
Forecasting cause-specific mortality is at the core of actuarial valuation, annuity pricing, and long-term public health planning. In traditional extrapolation frameworks such as the Lee-Carter and Li-Lee models, probability leakage is a structural flaw which causes the independently projected cause death rates to not sum to total mortality and results in implausible trajectory crossovers. To overcome these shortcomings, this study explores the application of Compositional Data Analysis (CoDA) extensions namely CoDA Lee-Carter (CDLC) and CoDA Li-Lee (CDLL) to historical Malaysian cause of death data. We transform cause proportions to the unit simplex using centred log-ratio coordinates. This transformation imposes exact …

Exact Solution Structure And Dynamic Preservation In A Nonstandard Finite-Difference Formulation Of The Sir Model, Ramsha Shafqat, Wutiphol Sintunavarat
Exact Solution Structure And Dynamic Preservation In A Nonstandard Finite-Difference Formulation Of The Sir Model, Ramsha Shafqat, Wutiphol Sintunavarat
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
A new nonstandard finite difference method is developed for discretizing the classical Susceptible--Infected--Removed (SIR) epidemic model. In the proposed approach, the first derivatives in the continuous SIR system are replaced by two carefully constructed nonstandard denominator functions, yielding a dynamically consistent discrete model with improved numerical stability while preserving consistency with the original continuous system. It is proved that the proposed scheme preserves the fundamental dynamical properties and qualitative behavior of the continuous SIR model, including positivity and the long-term dynamics of the population classes. Moreover, the resulting discrete system admits explicit analytical solutions, providing further insight into the model …

Modelling Acute Haemorrhagic Conjunctivitis In East Africa: An Integrated Approach To Transmission Dynamics And Outbreak Response Strategies, Geofrey Wingi Sikazwe
Tanzania Journal of Science
Acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC) poses a significant global health risk, with the potential for rapid spread during outbreaks. For instance, a localized outbreak in Yunnan Province, China, recorded infection rates of up to 48%, illustrating how transmission can intensify under favourable epidemiological and environmental conditions. Existing mathematical models of AHC transmission overlook seasonal variations, a critical factor in epidemic spread. This study combines species distribution models (SDMs) and epidemiological modelling to analyse key drivers of AHC in East Africa. We use the SEIR type (Susceptible-Exposed-Infected-Recovered - incorporating waning immunity) framework with temperature-dependent infectivity rate as the key driver of an …

Makara Journal of Science
Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with higher solubility than those from previous generations, but it is light-sensitive. Antibiotics, including levofloxacin, are generally prescribed in combination with nonsteroidal anti-inflamma-tory drugs (NSAIDs) to treat inflammatory infections. Furthermore, NSAIDs have poor water solubility, which can be improved by forming salts or multicomponent systems. This study aimed to develop a multicomponent system from levofloxacin with ketoprofen, an NSAID, and to evaluate its physicochemical characteristics; antibiotic potency; in vivo anti-inflammatory activity; absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME); and in silico toxicity risk. First, a phase diagram was created to predict the interaction type in the …

Public-Port Throughput As An Activity Proxy For Near-Port Air Quality And Health: A Transferable Two-Scale Framework (Kaohsiung, 2017–2024), Ping-Jen Wang, Ying-Lin Hsu, Shih-Hao Chang, Bao-Tzung Wu
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
We developed a two-scale time series framework using monthly container throughput (20-foot equivalent units, TEU) as a port activity indicator. Applied to Kaohsiung, Taiwan (2017–2024), we related TEU to near-port NO₂ and PM₂.₅ (monthly) and air quality to outpatient respiratory diagnoses (weekly) across the 2019–2020 sulfur rules and the COVID-19 pandemic. Transfer-function models indicate TEU tends to lead near-port NO₂ by 6–9 months. Structural break tests at policy dates indicate nonsignificant changes in levels and slopes, suggesting gradual rather than abrupt shifts in the activity–pollution linkage. Weekly two-pollutant distributed-lag Poisson models estimated relative risks (lags 0–8) per interquartile range (IQR) …
