Sunrise To Sunset Walk, Mariana Clara Servin
Sunrise To Sunset Walk, Mariana Clara Servin
Hospitality Design Graduate Student Capstones
Sunrise Manor, known as the East Side, is often overlooked and avoided. It carries a negative reputation, with locals frequently advising tourists to stay away, a pattern common in neighborhoods where marginalized communities reside. Despite its vibrancy, the area lacks parks, public amenities, and entertainment, leaving residents underserved. Sunrise Manor is predominantly Hispanic, and its cultural presence is embedded in everyday street life, where vendors sell fruit, food, flowers, and goods on neighborhood corners. This identity has also shaped destinations like Broadacres Marketplace, the largest outdoor swap meet in Las Vegas. However, recent immigration policies and rising fears within the …

Language Barriers In The Healthcare System, Gulten Altunbulak, Rebecca King, Lee Ann Hoffman
Spring 2026 OTD Capstone Symposium
Language barriers in healthcare negatively impact quality of care, patient satisfaction, and health equity, particularly among individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP). This capstone program aimed to develop and implement an occupational therapy communication protocol to address language barriers in a skilled nursing facility. A mixed-methods approach was used, including a pre-survey of staff, post-implementation interviews, and observational feedback to evaluate communication practices, interpreter use, and staff confidence. A total of 25 staff members completed the pre-survey, with additional insights gathered through interviews and observations following implementation. Interventions included staff education on interpreter services and culturally responsive care, along with …

View the Digital Exhibition of Virtual Reality as Pedagogical Space
This research presents an immersive, culturally grounded pedagogical framework that integrates Virtual Reality (VR) with experiential and project-based learning. Despite the potential of immersive technologies to enhance engagement, contemporary design curricula often exhibit a disconnect between theoretical instruction and embodied practice. This study addresses that gap by aligning virtual reality and emerging technology with design theories, culturally responsive pedagogies and localized knowledge systems.
Drawing upon David Kolb’s experiential learning cycle, the research validates active engagement and reflection into interactive, three-dimensional environments. The research also adopted two other frameworks in the …

Clear And Concise: Technical Writing For Biological Engineers, Abigail S. Engelberth
Clear And Concise: Technical Writing For Biological Engineers, Abigail S. Engelberth
Purdue University Press Books
Clear and Concise: Technical Writing for Biological Engineers is a practical guide designed to help students and early career engineers communicate their work with clarity and confidence. Drawing on years of teaching experience, Abigail S. Engelberth breaks down the essentials of technical writing into approachable steps, showing readers how to organize ideas, present data effectively, and write reports that meet professional standards.
Rather than overwhelming readers with theory, the book focuses on real-world application. It includes examples, checklists, and strategies for common engineering documents including formal and memo-style lab reports. Special attention is given to visuals, formatting, and the role …

Ai As A Support Tool For International Students, Gabi Alvarez, Derrel Fincher
Posters
This poster presentation explores the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance teaching, learning, and communication in higher education, with a special focus on supporting international students. Demonstrating how AI can serve as a supportive tool to foster inclusion, improve communication, and enhance learning experiences for diverse student populations. Drawing on my experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Teaching and Leadership at Pittsburg State University, this project examines how AI-supported strategies can help bridge language barriers, clarify academic expectations, and improve student engagement. Many international students arrive at PSU with strong academic backgrounds but must …

Star Vale. Design For Gentle Transition, Nadia Sue Juneide
Star Vale. Design For Gentle Transition, Nadia Sue Juneide
Grado en Diseño de Interiores
While perhaps a bit unorthodox, the idea to design a pediatric palliative care facility for my thesis really came from watching a New York Times video on the lack of it in the United States (NYT, 6). Fascinated, this lead to a rabbit hole on what consisted of palliative care, what options there were for parents, and what it looked like in Spain, which concluded in me seeing that the problem is the same here (Porqueviven, 7). A year later, when it was time to chose a topic to design for, I thought I would try to tackle what I …
Trauma Beyond Time: Temporal Constructs In Holocaust Testimonies, Sarah Seiselmyer-Snyder
Trauma Beyond Time: Temporal Constructs In Holocaust Testimonies, Sarah Seiselmyer-Snyder
Purdue University Press Books
Trauma Beyond Time: Temporal Constructs in Holocaust Testimonies challenges our understanding of what it means to be a Holocaust survivor, arguing that the term “post-Holocaust” fundamentally misrepresents survivors’ experiences. Through careful analysis of Holocaust literature and testimony, this book reveals how trauma persists across generations, defying conventional historical timelines. For those who perished, there can be no “after” to the Holocaust—their stories were violently ended. Yet for survivors, the Holocaust didn’t simply conclude in 1945. Their experiences demonstrate how trauma continues to shape lives decades later, making “post-Holocaust” a misleading concept that fails to capture their ongoing reality. Using the …
