Motivation Across Platforms, Mariia Shishmareva
Motivation Across Platforms, Mariia Shishmareva
Theses and Dissertations
Motivation in language learning has been studied for quite a long time. However, the main focus has been on motivation in face-to-face learning environments. Motivation in online learning can be different due to many factors. This study compared how a language instructor used motivational strategies in face to-face vs. Zoom classes; and how students reacted to these motivational strategies. For these purposes the Motivational Orientation of Language Teaching (MOLT) was used for observations. Results showed that while the teacher used many of the same motivational strategies in both sections, some categories like Social Chat, Referential Questions and Volunteering had significantly …
Modular Heat Dissipation Technique For A Cubesat, Melih Eken
Modular Heat Dissipation Technique For A Cubesat, Melih Eken
Theses and Dissertations
In recent years, due to their many advantages, interest in larger scale CubeSats, such as 3U and 6U, has been increased. Correspondingly, dissipating the heat from the heat generating components in the CubeSat has become a challenge for thermal control. In this research, a modular approach was developed to dissipate heat from the overheating components in a CubeSat. To accomplish this, both experimental and computational methodologies were used. A 6U CubeSat was computationally modeled and the model correlated by experimental test results. Subsequently, validated CubeSat thermal model was used to design a modular heat dissipater. Validation and performance experiments of …
Intercalibration Of Quikscat And Oscat Land Backscatter, John Colin Barrus
Intercalibration Of Quikscat And Oscat Land Backscatter, John Colin Barrus
Theses and Dissertations
The Ku-band SeaWinds-on-QuikSCAT scatterometer (QuikSCAT) operated continuously from 1999 to 2009. Though its primary mission was to estimate global ocean winds, QuikSCAT has proven useful in a variety of geophysical studies using land backscatter measurements. The end of the primary QuikSCAT mission in 2009 has prompted interest for continuing the QuikSCAT land dataset with other scatterometers. The Oceansat-2 scatterometer (OSCAT), launched in 2009, is a viable candidate for continuing the QuikSCAT time series because of the similarities of both sensors in function and design. An important difference in the sensors is that they operate at slightly different incidence angles. Continuing …
Development Of A Night Vision Goggle Heads Up Display For Paratrooper Guidance, Fernando Ontiveros
Development Of A Night Vision Goggle Heads Up Display For Paratrooper Guidance, Fernando Ontiveros
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis provides the proof of concept for the development and implementation of a Global Positioning System (GPS) display via Night Vision Goggles (NVG) Heads-Up Display (HUD) for paratroopers. The system has been designed for soldiers who will be able to utilize the technology in the form of a processing system worn in an ammo pouch and displayed via NVG HUD as a tunnel in the sky. The tunnel in the sky display design is essentially a series of boxes displayed within the goggle's HUD leading the paratrooper to the desired Landing Zone (LZ). The algorithm developed receives GPS and …
Technical Feasibility Of Loitering Lighter-Than-Air-Near-Space Maneuvering Vehicles, Eric R. Moomey
Technical Feasibility Of Loitering Lighter-Than-Air-Near-Space Maneuvering Vehicles, Eric R. Moomey
Theses and Dissertations
The near-space region of earth's atmosphere above 20 kilometers altitude is greatly underutilized. Lighter-than-air maneuvering vehicles, or airships, using the principle of buoyancy can take advantage of this region to become potential platforms for precision navigation, environmental monitoring, communication relays, missile warning, surveillance, and weapon delivery. These vehicles purportedly provide persistent coverage over large areas of the earth's surface at substantially lower costs than orbiting satellites. This study investigated the technical requirements to loiter an operational payload within this high altitude region using a lighter-than-air maneuvering platform. A parametric analysis was conducted to identify the critical technologies needed to achieve …
A Top-Down Performance Analysis Of A Pegasus-Based Space Strike System, Douglas E. Collins
A Top-Down Performance Analysis Of A Pegasus-Based Space Strike System, Douglas E. Collins
Theses and Dissertations
The feasibility of using Pegasus launch vehicle as a conventional weapons platform is examined. Using a top-down approach, the analysis addresses the fundamental question of whether such a system should be considered for development. The measures of effectiveness considered are delivery range, probability of destroying the target, and responsiveness. Each of the measures is assessed at its top-level and analyzed only to the level of detail needed to address the fundamental question. The study indicates that attaining a high probability of destroying the target requires extremely precise control over the burnout conditions and that the system must be on constant …
